Vboards1 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Can I shakey head over weed beds? I know that I "can" but am I supposed to? I went to a local pond that is about 2 feet deep in most areas (this place holds some decent fish) with 1 foot being weeds. I was throwing one of my new NSCB Swim Jigs with no luck (even though the water temp is fairly warm) so I switched to a 3/8 ounce standard shakey head with a 5" paca craw in the summer craw color. I could see some fish and I was kind of flipping to them but they wouldn't take it. My bait was totally weedless but still was gettin hung up on the line which is not a problem but still they just wouldn't take it :-?. Quote
jacobhookem Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 The fish wouldn't take it probably because the bait was going down into the weed and they couldn't see it well enough. I would recommend using either a drop shot with a foot long leader so the worm will be right above the weed and then you can just leave it there and shake it in their face. Or you could try using a texas rigged worm with a very very light weight so that the worm will just sit on top of the weeds and not punch all the way through. Hope this helps and good luck!! I could see some fish and I was kind of flipping to them but they wouldn't take it. My bait was totally weedless but still was gettin hung up on the line which is not a problem but still they just wouldn't take it :-?. Let's start with the easy part. When you can see the fish, the fish can see you. Most fish that can see you, will not bite what you are throwing at them. As you read more threads here, you will see this advice repeated many, many times. Now, what would I do? To start with, try to stay out of sight. Crouch down to get within casting distance, wear clothing that blends into your background, and make low angle casts to avoid splash. As you're only talking a foot of fishable water, try tossing out anything weightless. Soft plastics could include senkos, flukes, a floating worm, etc.. If you want to add some weight, try a small nail weight. This might be a good place to think about throwing a small to medium sized minnow style hard lure like a number 5 or 7 floating Rapala. The important part though is staying low so you don't spook these fish. If you think you have spooked them, sit down on the shoreline, and don't fish for 15 minutes or so. The bass will soon forget that you are there, and you should be able to start casting again. Good Luck! Quote
Senkoman12 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 tried it once. got hung up like crazy. finally said screw and picked up T-rig Quote
Nibbles Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Perhaps you should look into darter heads. I suggest the Owner Ultrahead darter head or Kalin's Screwlock darter head. Both are very weedless and have bullet shaped heads. Quote
