Ive been thinking about using braid on my spinning reels and using a flourocarbon leader, which line sizes should i use for both types?

What size rod? Medium? Heavy? Light? What are you throwing? Light soft plastics or heavier topwater stuff or something in between? It does make a difference. Todd

Since you mentioned spinning reels, you'll find that braided polyethylene is a dream on spinning gear.

When I first began using braid I started with 20-lb line but moving up to 30-lb braid totally eliminated line-burrowing,

provided better abrasion-resistance in heavy cover, yet it has the diameter of 10-lb mono.

I use 30-lb braid for everything.

Fluorocarbon?

Excellent dental floss I hear  :bushy-browed:

What Todd said.

Where are you fishing?

Spinning or bait caster?

Light, Medium, Medium Heavy, Heavy rod?

Size of reel?

Baits you will be throwing?

And the list could go on.

What we are saying is that there are way too many answers to your query, and the problem is magnified when you realize all are correct.

Just be sure to match the rod's paramaters with your reel, line test and bait weight.

As a rule of thumb: Spinning reels go with 8 pound test and baitcasters 12 pound test.

Then again.............

To me choosing a line size depends on where you are going to fish.  The thicker the stuff your fishing in,  the heavier the line.  In south flkorida I will NEVER use less then 15 pound Floro or mono.  Braid I use much heavier test only because there are fewer problems controlling the line with heavier braid.  When I fished up north years ago,  I would use 8 pound test all the time.

For my spinning set up i like to fill the spool a little less than half with 10 lb mono for backing. Then i'll fill it up the rest of the way with 30lb braid. and for my leader i use 15lb floro about 4-5ft long hope this helps.

Welcome to the site, I see you are a young teen.

I would suggest 10 lb green Nanofil with 10 lb FC leader joined with the Uni-Uni knot. Make the leader long enough so the knot sets between the reel and first big rod guide. Some line makers offer FC leader spools like Trilene 100% FC.

Good luck and let us know how your fishing going.

10lb Power Pro, 8lb fluorocarbon leader. Todd

I use the same rod and 20# Power Pro is great on it. If going straight to the reel with braid, put some double sided tape on the spool first or the braid could slip.

yea probably between 15lb to 20lb braid. then tie to a 8lb to 10lb leader.. you could look up Aaron Martens videos and learn a lot of leader tying info. He's the man for that.
