Pz3 Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 Lakes need pronounceable names like lake bob Some of the native american names really drive me nuts too! I respect the heritage and all but yikes. I never know what im trying to say. Found this looking around online. http://myfwc.com/fishing/freshwater/sites-forecast/black-bass/ Quote
Super User RoLo Posted February 15, 2014 Super User Posted February 15, 2014 Would that mean Lake Toho or one of the many lakes in the Kissimee area? I need to stay in between Lake okeechobee and Lake Toho it seems so I'll be fairly close to all the lakes that were listed. Ten years ago I would've recommended West Toho, but things are a little different today. As a result of a major muck scraping project, Lake Kissimmee has become a real trophy factory. It's an enormous vegetable prairie that supports hydrilla, coontail, maidencane (kissimmeegrass), spatterdock, waterlilies, lotus, eelgrass, bulrushes, pondweed and more (It's an easy choice). BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted February 15, 2014 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted February 15, 2014 Lakes need pronounceable names like lake bob Tohopekaliga Hatchineha Kissimmee Weoyapkapka Istokpoga Okeechobee These are some of the best fisheries in the world. And the hardest to pronounce. But I like it better than Bob, Ted, Mark, ect... Quote
BassObsessed Posted February 15, 2014 Author Posted February 15, 2014 Thanks everyone for all the replies and the maps of the lake system. I have been looking at house rentals in the Kissimmee area for the last month or so and have a few in mind if they don't get snagged up before I make a choice. I had west Lake Toho as one of my original choices but I'll keep checking the catch reports in the next few weeks. The funny thing is I lived in southern Florida for 2 years in the 90's and rarely bass fished because I wasn't hooked then. I was an hour south of Lake O. I'm going to try some golf course ponds and community ponds aswell while I'm in the area. Quote
gar-tracker Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 I consider Kissimmee and Toho one in the same, but they're actually not. Just so easy to hop from lake to lake. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted February 16, 2014 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted February 16, 2014 I consider Kissimmee and Toho one in the same, but they're actually not. Just so easy to hop from lake to lake. Big Toho Marina to Grape Hammock is less than an hour if you get a good lock and the wind is down. Even faster if warmer is driving(not recommended). Quote
BassObsessed Posted February 18, 2014 Author Posted February 18, 2014 Can't wait to get down to the Kissimmee area next month. Everything is frozen here and not that great when it's not. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted February 18, 2014 Super User Posted February 18, 2014 Lake Toho is north of Lake Kissimmee, and is still frozen over (Tip-ups are sold at Big Toho Marina). Not to worry, Lake Kissimmee has lots of open water Roger Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted February 23, 2014 Global Moderator Posted February 23, 2014 Lake Istapoga should be on your list..it is on fire as well. It still is... Mike Quote
BassObsessed Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 I'll keep that in mind. Hopefully all these lakes are still on fire the last week of March. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted February 24, 2014 Super User Posted February 24, 2014 I'll keep that in mind. Hopefully all these lakes are still on fire the last week of March. You've got plenty of time. 'May' is a stellar month in central Florida, the firemen don't get here until June. Roger Quote
BassObsessed Posted March 9, 2014 Author Posted March 9, 2014 It's getting closer to that time. Does anyone have any recent reports on Toho or Istokpoga or any lake nearby? Knowing that bass spawn in stages what scenario do you think I'll have the last week of this month? Thanks for all the help. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted March 9, 2014 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted March 9, 2014 Went to the south end of Kissimmee today. Tough bite. We got a few dinks flipping the pads but that was it. Quote
BassObsessed Posted March 25, 2014 Author Posted March 25, 2014 Well, I fished Toho today for the first time. I'm a firm believer that lake has loads of toads. I caught my personal best there today and had a blowup that could of been a 12+ according to the guide and just the sound of the fish and the water displacement. I'll probably be going there a few more times this week during my vacation. This is my biggest to date. 2 Quote

Its insane how loud and big they are. It really is something to see. Quote
