Mr. Swabby(aka westtennessee1) Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Fellow BR members- I've been a member for about four years now, and this site is very useful for me as a military member in finding new areas & techniques as I change duty stations. Most recently I was in Memphis and was able to lock in with RoadWarrior, and the Tennessee River Chain... Now, I'm in King George VA and looking for a couple of areas for Spring fishing. Which would you choose and why? Smith Mtn, Kerr, Anna? I've fished Potomac up near Indian Head and had pretty good luck last summer but small fish... Looking for something new- Hope to see you all at this year's Road Trip! Thanks all! Appreciate in advance your time and consideration! Jeff (aka swabby) Quote
Super User Teal Posted February 10, 2014 Super User Posted February 10, 2014 I'm impartial to Kerr Lake in the spring Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted February 11, 2014 Super User Posted February 11, 2014 Smith Mt for smallmouth in mid April, Kerr in early May, and Smith Mt in late May for largemouth. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 11, 2014 Super User Posted February 11, 2014 When the dogwoods bloom in Virginia the bass are on their beds. Use the dogwoods as your guide to the spawn in all three bodies of water. Since you are so close to One Fish Anna I would suggest trying that body of water first. And don't forget the AP Hill ponds. Launch from Hope Springs to get on Aquia Creek on the Potomac. Closer and easier than Indian Head. Also, go to BPS and get the GMCO maps of all bodies of water you will be fishing plus the 2014 VGIF Fishing in Virginia booklet. Very helpful. Thanks for your service and don't speed on 301. Both State Police and Caroline deputies patrol that stretch of highway closely. Quote
cwalsh540 Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Might need to keep an eye on Kerr. Look up the coal ash spill effecting the Dan river. They think it will speed to Kerr and Gaston 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 13, 2014 Super User Posted February 13, 2014 "C" - good post. I just skimmed the article about the spill in the Richmond Times-Dispatch but paid no attention to it. Have first tournament on Gaston on March 9th so will be interested in the impact the spill will have on both bodies of water. I will call the Corps and ask them before the tournament about the spill and its impact on the lakes. Quote
cwalsh540 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Last I read, the company had no idea how to clean it up since the sediment is just settling on the bottom. Think thier only idea was to dredge it all up. And that might kill the river Quote
Mr. Swabby(aka westtennessee1) Posted February 15, 2014 Author Posted February 15, 2014 Thanks guys, appreciate the input. I'll keep you posted of my trips to the lakes in VA! Quote
