Guy is offering to sell me 2 G Loomis casting Rods (locally) but I haven't seen them yet. I don't know anything about Loomis rods. All the info I have is they were used for 1 season and both are MF. 1 is 7' and one is 7' 6". He said he paid $275 originally but will give me a good deal on them.

Any clue on what models he has. I don't understand the whole lettering system Loomis uses. I wanted to be able to check them out online just to get general idea of what I will be looking at 1st hand.

$275 is in the IMX price range - at least at today's prices.  No telling how long he's had the rods and what the prices were then.

Unfortunately, there are just too many Loomis product lines and models within the lines to be able to identify the rod just on the lengths.  To know what kind of deal he is offering, you REALLY need to have him provide you with the exact model numbers, condition description, and preferably photos, of the rods...

Ok. I will try to get more info. He just said they were a year old and wants $125 each for them. He also has a Calais Cl 200 for sale but its a righty and I need lefty, he wanted $150 for it. Its also supposed to be one season old. I just hate looking at used stuff not having a clue to what it costs new and I know their rods have a large range in price.

A G-Loomis MBR844 is an 84", 4 power rod in the MAG BASS line-up.

Ok, the power part of it is what I couldn't figure out. I went to their site and its a little less muddy. Im still learning on rods only a couple months ago I thought there were only 2 types of rods....1 piece or 2.--thanks

Just got text. CBR 843 CBR 903. He said they were crank bait rods purchased Spring of 13.

Good medium-power cranking rods - worth the price for sure if they're in good shape.

Do you think that power rod could work for anything other then crank bait? I already have a 7' MH casting rod. If I decide to buy one can anyone recommend the 7' or 7' 6".

I do mainly river fishing for smallies out of boat. I have 2 spin rods both MF 6-6 and 7'(I run Presidents on these). I have 1 MH-F casting rod and need to add one more casting rod. I was about to buy something new in the $100 range. Ghost, ***, Mojo etc..but feel even if MF isnt exactly what I wanted that this would be stupid to pass up. I know I dont need both rods so if I just get one Im leaning towards another 7' rod.

This is my first year using a BC so Im looking to get into it on the cheap jic I dont like it. I have 2 new Citica's to put on the rods.

Any opinions appreciated. I wish the Calais was a lefty I may pick that up too but Im not a huge fan of just turning stuff for a buck.

If you can only get one rod - get the CBR853 and you'll be set for shallow- and mid-depth cranking.  Some folks also use cranking rods for spinnerbaits and other moving baits as well.

AND, like Teal said...get the Calais too...

Yea it's a very good deal, if u will use them..... I used my 7' CBR for open hook tube presentations in like pea gravel , sand, smaller rocks etc.. It was ok ..not bad... Not perfect but it worked.

Good luck!

I 3rd Goose and Teal get the Calais!  I'd be ALL OVER THAT DEAL.  I also agree you should go for the 853 for what you are doing.

Im supposed to meet this guy (never met) on Friday to check things out.

Are there any red flags or issues to check out on a baitcaster. I guess I can expect some wear on it but it worries me a little buying something just to sell using my limited knowledge to make sure it works ok. I get a rod is either broke or not but I didn't know if a BC reel could have issues that arent obvious just standing in a parking lot reeling it wouldn't show.

The fact that he says that reel isn't that old and he wants 150 for it is a red flag. Could be desperate for cash... Could be defective... Could be stolen.... Who knows...go check it out.

Call or text him and see if he is willing to put some line on the reel for you. Bring a dummy plug or an old crankbait with u and take a second to cast it across the parking lot.. that's a quick test. For the money u are spending, its not an unusual request.
