Super User BassinLou Posted February 10, 2014 Super User Posted February 10, 2014 Caught this awesome 51" wahoo yesterday afternoon. I had fun fishing weekend. Bass fishing in the glades on Saturday, offshore fishing on Sunday. South Fl is awesome. Enjoy the pic. What makes this catch even more special to me, is that this was my 7 yr old son's first offshore outing. 4 Quote

I love the texture of wahoo, its a nice white fish but it has imo a little bit more dense than most white flaky fish. 1 Quote
pbrussell Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Wahoo is one of my favorite fish to eat. Delicious Quote

Super User BassinLou Posted February 11, 2014 Author Super User Posted February 11, 2014 I have to agree with what you guys have mentioned on how good wahoo tastes. I made some wahoo steaks about an hour ago, and they were gooood. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 11, 2014 Global Moderator Posted February 11, 2014 Never caught one but I can only imagine how fast they must be able to burn off some line. I bet your son will remember that fish for the rest of his life! Quote
john81 Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 What way did you decide to cook it, also what did you put on it? Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 11, 2014 Super User Posted February 11, 2014 Nice fish, excellent fighting fish, about the only thing faster are billfish. Quote

Super User BassinLou Posted February 11, 2014 Author Super User Posted February 11, 2014 Thank you for the compliments guys. That fish was indeed special. We were fishing a 3 line spread and my setup was the center reel with the bait right outside the white wash. We were trolling at about 9-10 knots for about 2 hours when we were discussing where to bottom fish for a while because the trolling was slow. No sooner then we finished that sentence, my center rig began peeling out line. The consistent Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz........ was music to my ears. That fish ran for a while. I brought it to the boat 4 times and all 4 times resulted into repeated runs. By the 5 approach the fish was exhausted. After that, it was gaffed and brought on board. High 5 fives all around. As far as how I made it. I went the grilling route with an Asian recipe. It was titled Grilled Ono (wahoo) with soy, ginger, garlic. It was delicious. The steaks were about a pound or so each. My wife actually took the leftovers for lunch today. I know it's lunch time somewhere.... sorry. All of you saw the before pic here is the after..... Thanks again. Quote

Looks good I always have a wahoo rig out when searching for spots on the bottom. They have been caught trolling at 20knots before which is insane. Ive also been spooled at high speed trolling if you dont pay attention or forget you have a line in the water lol. The ace lures are my favorite for that kind of trolling with 480lb wire as a leader. Then i would say tuna and mackeral are next. Sailfish comes in as the fastest fish on just about every site, marlin takes the 2 nd spot and wahoo the 3 rd. http://thetoptenz.net/fastest-fish-in-world/ http://www.top10stop.com/world/fastest-fish-in-oceans-and-seas-top-10-fastest-swimmers One thing we have plenty of down here is salifish and it't that time for the year for them.
