Super User buzzed bait Posted February 10, 2014 Super User Posted February 10, 2014 So every time I've gone in January the water temps have been in the 30's and I haven't seen the first sign of life. I drove a little further today to find some warmer water (43 degree water temp) on a small electric only reservoir outside of Atlanta. The weather was great yesterday and even if it wasn't, I had to try out my new Shimano Compre Jig Rod the wife got me on Saturday!! I was trying a crank in about 7-12 ft of water and thought i hit a limb on my retrieve. Threw to the same spot and felt a definite nudge on the bait like the fish just "nosed it". I immediately grab the new jig rod with the terminator jig tied on (just placed my Siebert order, can't wait for them to show up). Toss it up to around 2 feet of water and start the drag back and about the 5ft of water mark, was a serious hard thump and then the line starts going! This little 4lb beauty felt like the fish of a lifetime yesterday after breaking my skunk streak! Not to mention when the feed is on this fish will be a chunky 6lber! Can't wait for some consistent warmer weather! Quote

Super User buzzed bait Posted February 11, 2014 Author Super User Posted February 11, 2014 Nice! What lake was it? I fish the ATL-area electric only lakes too I would say that I'd like to keep it a secret, but if you've ever been there you know it's no secret. Busiest electric only lake I've found. Goes by the name of Lake Varner or Cornish Creek Reservoir. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted February 11, 2014 Super User Posted February 11, 2014 Varner ain't no secret on this site Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted February 11, 2014 Author Super User Posted February 11, 2014 Varner ain't no secret on this site i know, based on the number of boats on any given day it's not secret in the state, let alone this site..... Quote
Salamander12 Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Nice catch, it's a great feeling getting that first fish on your line after being skunked. Imo Sometimes A 3lber can feel more rewarding than catching 6lber in a feeding frenzy Quote
