The Rooster Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 On the newest models of Pflueger President spinning reels (not having the wooden knobs), is there any way to access the bearings inside the handle knob for cleaning? Some of these reels don't even have bearings there, like the Trion for example. Do you know if they're made so they could be added? I know that last one is not an expensive reel but I sort of enjoy tinkering on things like this. Adding carbon drags and bearings to make upgraded versions of themselves. I don't really want to tear up a handle trying to find out though. Just wondered if any of you all had removed one before. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted February 10, 2014 Super User Posted February 10, 2014 If there's a knob cap on the end, it should pop off with relative ease. You can then see if the knob features a screw or a rivet. A screw is removable, and a rivet is not. The cap will pop back in without an issue after you're done. Some knobs don't have a cap, and the rivet goes all the way to the end of the knob, these aren't removable either. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 That's right. If there is a cap that's removable, you may want to fashion a puller out of a stiff piece of small dia. wire or a safety pin maybe. The schematic only shows the full handle. If anything, you might retrofit a handle from a higher model. Quote
