Arv Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I'm looking at getting a Fenwick Elite Tech SM for fishing rivers/streams out of my kayak. I have narrowed it down to the 6'9m/xf 2pc spinning model or the 6'3 mh/f 2pc spinning model. Not sure exactly what conditions I'll be up against so I want the most "all around" rod between the two. I'm planning on throwing everything from topwaters to jigs, senkos to spinners. I have a 30 size Abu Garcia Cardinal that I will be pairing it with for now until I upgrade. Thanks for any help in advance! Edit: Most likely looking to use 20# braid to a leader Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted February 9, 2014 Super User Posted February 9, 2014 I would go with the MXF and not the MH model. I have a similar st croix rod as far as power and action and it is probably the most versatile rod I own. I also would think that a 6'3" MHF spinning rod would be very pool cue like due to the shorter length. 1 Quote

RandySBreth Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Yeah he's right on - for "all around" I'd stick with M instead of MH - especially since you'll be using a superline main line - plenty of power there. You might step down to 15-pound (or less) superline though - cuts through current better. Quote

kLuo Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Thanks for the tip! 3rd vote for the 6'9" M. I have that rod and I love it. The action is slightly less than XF and feels more F...makes a great all-around rod. Quote
