Pete Mathews Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I know there is that one magic bullet. That lure that always works and I will find it! Is there any truth to this? I have an addiction to buying lures. I'd be really curious to hear if you seasoned professionals out there use the same lures over and over. If so what lures and on what species? :-? Quote
OHIO Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 There is no lure that will work all the time, but the Senko or Senko type bait works a lot. You won't get a fish every cast, but you will probably get at least one every time you go out if you keep at it. If anyone knows of this lure that works all the time please share. ;D Quote
Vinny Chase Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 The trick worm is the closest thing to the "perfect lure" IMO Quote

We are always outsmarted by a slimy green creature with a brain the size of a pea. :-? ;D x2 on the trickworm or original senko.Probably the most consistent baits ever created between the color options and multiple rigging/weighting options. catchnm Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 x2 on the jig. Sometimes "old school" is the best. Jigs have been been catching quality fish consistently for years and years. As far as trailers.....I've used everything from pork to tubes to senkos. Most of my confidence in a trailer rests on a Rage Craw or Chunk at the moment though. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted January 4, 2011 Super User Posted January 4, 2011 Texas rigged Culprit 7 1/2" black shad worm. When I pull it out of my box and open the bag, usually at least one bass will jump in the boat and throw up his fins, before I even tie it on! The rest just line up and prepare to be caught. Seriously, we all have at least one high confidence bait and I believe that it is as much how we fish it as the bait. We get great confidence in any bait when we learn how to fish it correctly in all conditions. Don't just fish the "magic worm", make it look like bass food. I learned you have way more options than just cast & retrieve. Here's just a few ways to fish my favorite. 1.) Dead stick it for 10 to 20 minutes at a time. 2.) Drift and let it drag very slowly across the bottom. 3.) Cast over a log or a limb and dangle it for while (you can fish a lot of different depths on the same cast) 4.) Cast on top of cover (log, lilly pad, floating dock, etc.) and pull gently to let it slip silently into the water. This is deadly BTW. 5.) Hop it, jump it, twitch it, jerk it erratically, experiment. 6.) Drop shot, split shot, Texas rig, Carolina rig, mojo rig, make your own rig. You can fish with the same soft plastic bait for days without ever doing it the same way twice. It is always amazing to me when I find a great presentation and "load the boat" on one day, that I can't steal a bite the same way for months. Gotta change it up and keep on keepin on! The point is "magic bait" + "magic presentation" = BITES! Go get em! Ronnie Quote

Morelures Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 You have me sold on this "majic fat Ika" R.W. Just what I need "MoreLures"..haha I wonder if this bait is too big for the rivers??? Seems as if smaller baits produce better in the rivers. Quote
Super User Raul Posted January 4, 2011 Super User Posted January 4, 2011 I 'm a professional tackle hoarder, been a pro fotr more than a couple of decades, also I 'm a die ard bass angler, my take, the closest two lures to a perfect lure are: 1.- Straight tail 6-8 inches worm 2.- 5 inch curlytail grub With those two and a good assortment of terminal tackle you can fish anywhere and catch fish. Of course that the greater part of the perfection is located where it has always been ---> behind the rod handle. Quote

I guess patience is the key when deadsticking. The time is right, but I must say, the guy who showed me how to be still that long was fishing like a maniac while I sat. LOL I caught a 2 1/2 lber the very first time I sat for more than 10 minutes. You just have to try it. Ronnie Quote

So, what 's the rush ? My fishing partners biggest fish was caught because he fell asleep night fishing. I was laughing at him sleeping in the passager seat with his rod sitting on his lap. He jumped up from a little nap and reeled in his PB. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 4, 2011 Super User Posted January 4, 2011 The original "tube" was a Gitzit. It was designed as a "do nothing" lure. The basic plan was to fish the bait when nothing was working! Cast the Gitzit or drop it straight down. Lean your "pole" against the side of the boat, grab a beer and light a smoke... This is how deadsticking was born. 8-) Quote

So, what 's the rush ? Well the rush is percentages. Chunk and wind you could probably get 30 maybe 40 cast in that 10 min. time period. I would venture to say that the percentages will be on your side if you hit 30 different spots rather than let your lure sit in one spot that may or may not be holding a fish. JMO Quote

JMO No one is suggesting you fish this way exclusively. It is just a technique that can work when others (casting like crazy) have failed. I have avoided getting skunked more than once by slowing way down. JMHO Ronnie Quote

JMO Well, percentages mean squat when after chunkig and winding all day long hasn 't produced O bites or looking at it from the percentage point of view 0 percent bites. Old farts like Ronnie and myslef have reached that point, we do what we gotta do when you gotta do in order to catch a few uncooperative fish, deadsticking is just another technique. Have I told you about those times when you only catch fish if you troll for them ? Quote

As I recall, fishing one spot was exactly how KVD won last year's Classic and subsequently, Angler Of The Year. : Quote
Super User senile1 Posted January 4, 2011 Super User Posted January 4, 2011 If you know you are fishing an area containing bass and nothing is working deadsticking can be deadly. I have to admit that I don't think I've ever let a lure sit for 10 - 20 minutes though. Five minutes is probably the longest I have let a lure soak. This is definitely something I'll have to try this year when the bite is tough. Thanks for the eye-opener, Ronnie. Quote
