Which Of These Spinning Rods?

I need to buy a new open water rod to get my mind off this terrible winter that won't end.  I was thinking of an *** Black since I like my casting model so much but I've also been reading great reviews on the Fenwick Elite Tech smallmouth rods.  So between the 6'7" *** *** Black and the 6'9" Fenwick Elite Tech in either ML or M which would you reccomend?  I'll be using it for multiple applications from weightless plastics up to 3/16oz jigs and will be going with either mono or copolymer line.

personally I would go with the fenwick, they make a fantastic spinning rod. the *** casting rod is nice i have not used the spinning, but i am sure it is also pretty good, its really a toss up.

Love the *** spinning rods. One of the most comfortable grips on the market. They're a pleasure to fish with.

My *** and Smallmouth rods are casting models.  Both great rods for the money, but I prefer my Smallmouth rods....mainly because of the grip.  The gentleman who turned me onto the Smallmouth rods says the spinning rod line has the most comfortable grips he has ever used.  I believe this to be another case where you can't go wrong with either rod.

 

My personal choice would be the 6'9" MLF Smallmouth for those weights.  If you go with ***, there are 3 choices in ML.

 

I will say my friend says his Smallmouth 6'9" MXF handles light weights really well and is very sensitive.  Would give you a little more backbone.

Really recommend putting it in your hand before you buy. Not 100% necessary, but I always like to feel it first.  Gotta feel right, wiggle right, have the right tip....

I was in the same position, and I went with the M/xf Fenwick... But FWIW, I have yet to fish it. It's one of the many things I am looking forward to when I can get back on the water when the ice melts.

I haven't picked up any of the *** spinning rods so I can't give a comparison but the Fenwick is really light weight and has a lot of sensitivity but being extremely comfortable allows you to focus of your fishing instead of focusing on how to make you hand feel better. If you go with the Fenwick I would go with the 6'9" M-XF, and the reason is because of the versatility of it, it will handle light baits really well but also allow you to whip 5" senkos a mile with no problem, the ML-F will do the same but you'll begin to notice it is a ML with a 5" senko , also you are using mono so the medium with the extra fast action will let you get a little extra on the hook sets. The really nice thing is even though the action is extra fast, it still has the flex of a normal medium power spinning rod, it lets me throw #5 shad raps with no difficulty and it has plenty of flex to fight the fish once it is hooked so you can feel confident to use other treble hook baits like in-line spinners on it with no worry. I don't know off hand what kind of warranty *** has but the Fenwick smallmouth series has a lifetime warranty with good customer service, that is about all I can tell you.
