quanjig Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Almost two years since the passing of our two dogs, we started to look at rescue groups to adopt a puppy! We found HART, homeless animal rescue team. A little of mix breed puppies was rescued from a high kill shelter and were put on their website for adoption. We filled out an application and planned to attend the next adoption event. Their events are very well run with an all volunteer staff and an unbelievable number of people that foster dogs and cats until perminant homes can be found. To adopt a pet from HART, you must complete the adoption form, go thru 2 interviews, have a vet check ( to make sure all of you previous and current pets were/are well cared for and current on vaccinations ) as well as a home visit!! This is Maple, she is supposedly a lab/border collie mix. At about 12 weeks old, she weighs almost 25lbs! She is such a good little puppy, already crate trained and on her way to being completely potty trained! 7 Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted February 9, 2014 Super User Posted February 9, 2014 Congrats on the new Puppy ~ She's a little Sweetie Pie for sure. As I'm sure you already know - occasionally the shelters "breed assessment' is a guess. At 12 weeks and 25 lbs, I would venture to guess your puppy to be closer to a Border Collie / Newfie mix perhaps. A Lab / Border Collie is small to medium size dog, so 25 lbs in 84 days sounds a little big. A-Jay 1 Quote
quanjig Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 Thanks guys! So far she has far exceeded my expectations! A-Jay, I totally agree, a guess is just that! The more I really look at her the more I see a little bit of cattle dog! Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 9, 2014 Super User Posted February 9, 2014 Beautiful puppy. Congrats on rescuing her - or did she rescue you???? 1 Quote
quanjig Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 Thanks Sam. I think when you adopt/rescue, it feels as if you have made a difference. In the end, you are right, my end of the bargain seems to pale in comparison to what I get out of it!! 1 Quote
