The 3.8 inch fat swing impact is one of my favorite swimjig trailers for the California style of jig. By this I mean the Northstar flip and swim, Siebert elite series, or the Dirty jigs swim jigs. The smaller and more slender swing impact is great as a trailer on the northern style finesse swim jigs.

Outside of a trailer option or as A-rig attachments I would swim them on the keel weighted swimbait hook nice and slow when it is cold and more drop and lift when it is warmer. Weight would be dependent on depth and to an extent how patient you are. Also consider fall rate and action as it relates to overall weight. Typically I like 3/16 for most of my scenarios and I may adjust a bit either way as needed. The squid scent, action, and color options make these some of the best baits I have fished.

Their product line as a whole is very good and has caught me alot of fish. A go to lure company for me especially when I am on a tough bite. I think you really like em.

X2.

Very thorough and well written post, Kickerfish.

Thanks hookseton3!

Once folks move past the price and to an extent the durability issues, and look at just their effectiveness, it is easy to see why they outstsnding baits.

I fish them with j will and big hammer jig heads some.  Mostly I just use EWG hooks, with or without a bullet weight out in front to get them down.

I'm not sure if the action will be the same but for those who can't find them but have a bps nearby this might be a good substitute. For me bps or cabelas is 2hrs away. Gander mtn and dicks are 1hr. Small town living at it's best haha

Dicks in Hagerstown had a bunch of them when I was there two weeks ago.

That's where these came from. They only carry the 3.8 fat and 4 regular.

The best jighead to use really depends on the cover you're dealing with

and whether you're fishing the bait as a subsurface, mid-depth or bottom lure.

For example, an exposed-hook jighead wouldn't travel 10 ft in the cover we fish.

Yeah I picked up some J Will style heads and I also have weighted swimbait hooks.

I really like both the standard and the Fat. I use the skinny ones most on the back of a jig or a spinnerbait. I like the Fat on a 4/0 weighted hook with a slow steady retrieve.

Both baits are good on the arig.

Tried them on scrounger heads and didn't produce as much as with a more conventional small swim trailer.

With temps in the 70's today I got to do some fishing at a nearby pond. A couple fish on a SK Trap and the ready came on the 3.8 bluegill flash. I was using an 1/8 oz head and letting it hit bottom then returned with a very slow retrieve. One bait produced probably 12 fish. Use glue so they will last longer. As these are my first swimbaits, I had a very good experience and they did great.

keel weighted owner or lake fork swim-bait hook. A touch of chartreuse JJ's on the tail never hurts.

Bass pro now carries almost an identical SB to the Keitech's

I like the Keitech's and Lake fork boot tail shads depending on presentation style I'm going for.  The impacts action on the fall is second to none IMO. whereas the lake forks have a very exaggerated back and forth rolling action to them which gives a good flash between the color on bottom and on top of the bait, it seems to work good parallel to weedlines

i said i wasnt going to get the BPS brand when i was in store the other day but since they were on sale about $2 off, i grabbed the "sight fish" color white with a clear/flake back since i was wanting a white, and that was about the only color i had lacking in the Keitchs. ha

But wow do they look identical, they must be a hit cause they were pretty well picked over, especial the sight fish, and a sexy shad pattern looked to be the big seller of the bunch.

You guys realize they're made of Fukashima meltdown byproducts... I'd stop fishing them asap.

The new Sculpin color is sweeeeeeeeeeet.

I had a friend grab me a pack of the 4.8 bluegill flash bps brand just to compare them to the Keitechs. It's a perfect clone.

The profile might be darn near the same but keep in mind the soft plastic material used as well as the scent aspect. Swimming action and the shimmy on the fall also differ slightly. I have fished these knock offs and others as well. Success was average at best. I am sticking to the Keitechs. Same principle as a senko vs knock offs for me.
