Has anyone ever used a hook sharpener on say spinnerbaits or chatterbaits or jigs? I bought a few really nice chatterbaits for cheap at some flea market but the hooks are not in the best condition. I've never used one so i'm not sure how good they work if at all.

Maybe someone can weigh in.

I use the triangular stones from my Spyderco Sharpmaker. There's a small groove down one side of the stones that work great for large hooks.

Just use a file like I do. I've saved tons of spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, jigs, treble hooks and even normal worm hooks by sharpening them. I always keep a file in my tackle bag.

What type of file? can you provide a link or somthing?

I use a file also. I do have a diamond sharpener that I'll use to touch them up, but if they're totaly sliding off my thumbnail, the file gets the nod.

I have made a hook sharpener that consists of two 7/32 chainsaw files affixed together in parallel. I superglued just the ends together and then used shrinktube to finish it off. Just draw the hook down the length of the files until you're happy with the points.

I use a mill file for my 12/0 hooks, works very well.  I don't have the same success using that file on my #4 and #2 saltwater trebles, I'm looking for something better preferable pocket sized.  My freshwater hooks get replaced.

I purchased a Hook- Hone-R ll sometime back in the early 90's. It's a powered, rechargable unit that sharpens a wide range of hooks with a sticky sharp conical point. I think they are no longer being made which is a shame since it was a well made product. Mine still works great, though, and I hope it outlives me!
