I dig the scorpions. I will probably add a new one to the collection before too long.

That would look nice on a mojo rod

They match the dobyns dx series of rods extremely well as well as the "new" cumara series.

Is it made in Japan or Malaysia?

How would one acquire one of these pretty reels?

There are several Japanese fishing shops that ship to the U.S. Ive found the best prices are found at the Rakuten market though.

I think its made in Malaysia which is probably why they can come down on the price vs the Chronarch E

I actually put a deposit down on one of these with Japan Tackle but they were not sure where it is made so I bought another Conquest 50.

I have bought multiple reels from them but they are not the cheapest. They are having a special pre order sale on the new Scorpion. Do a Google search on the best place to buy JDM reels. I have also bought from BassJP.

There is Japan Angler, Plat, Marunouchishop and others.

I'm pretty sure the drag star is plastic, but I could be wrong. While these reels look pretty sick and I'm sure they will be fantastic, I think I'm gonna stick with my XTs. I have found the Malaysian made reels to be of good quality, and Bantam has put my concerns to rest regarding the Shimano plant in Malaysia, I just feel really good about my Japan made reels. We shall see if the bait monkey agrees.

Bantam1 stated on another forum that the Scorpion is the same reel as the new Curado at a higher price. However what's interesting is the Scorpion appears to be advertised with 2 more bearings then the new Curado. Also interesting that they will have two different points of origin for manufacturing.

Also interesting is that the Scorpion in that pic is a lefty, but JapanTackle doesn't seem to be taking pre orders in the lefty.

The scorpion will probably have 2 bearings in the handle. That's where the difference comes from. And usually Shimano JDM uses higher quality bearings than USDM

Yep I assumed the addl bearings would be in the handle as well. Just curious that Bantam1 said they were the same reel when there are these kinds of differences.

The extra cost has to be for something, otherwise you're just paying for a different color reel. Though it is cool to have something a little different than everyone else. I wonder how much the XTs will be discounted if at all.

I think the image is reversed, which is what makes it look LH.  (Joking)

I've been told the reel is made in Japan as well.  Different handle and bearing upgrdaes over the curado.
