Super User kickerfish1 Posted February 8, 2014 Super User Posted February 8, 2014 I dig the scorpions. I will probably add a new one to the collection before too long. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted February 8, 2014 Super User Posted February 8, 2014 That would look nice on a mojo rod Quote
bootytrain Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Getting one of those and a new Curado for sure 1 Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted February 8, 2014 Super User Posted February 8, 2014 That would look nice on a mojo rod They match the dobyns dx series of rods extremely well as well as the "new" cumara series. Quote
bootytrain Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Is it made in Japan or Malaysia? I think its made in Malaysia which is probably why they can come down on the price vs the Chronarch E Quote
Jay Ell Gee Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 How would one acquire one of these pretty reels? Quote
bootytrain Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 How would one acquire one of these pretty reels? There are several Japanese fishing shops that ship to the U.S. Ive found the best prices are found at the Rakuten market though. Quote
John G Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I think its made in Malaysia which is probably why they can come down on the price vs the Chronarch E I actually put a deposit down on one of these with Japan Tackle but they were not sure where it is made so I bought another Conquest 50. Quote
John G Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 How would one acquire one of these pretty reels? I have bought multiple reels from them but they are not the cheapest. They are having a special pre order sale on the new Scorpion. Do a Google search on the best place to buy JDM reels. I have also bought from BassJP. There is Japan Angler, Plat, Marunouchishop and others. http://www.japantackle.com/ Quote
TrippyJai Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Does the new Scorpion or Curado have an aluminum or plastic star drag? That can be a deal killer for me. Quote
bass1980 Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 That would look killer on my Gloomis GL2 cranking rod! Quote
Hogsticker Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I'm pretty sure the drag star is plastic, but I could be wrong. While these reels look pretty sick and I'm sure they will be fantastic, I think I'm gonna stick with my XTs. I have found the Malaysian made reels to be of good quality, and Bantam has put my concerns to rest regarding the Shimano plant in Malaysia, I just feel really good about my Japan made reels. We shall see if the bait monkey agrees. Quote
John G Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Kayo Sonada with Japan Tackle just sent me an email saying the new Scorpion is Made in Japan! Looks like I will be getting one!!! Quote
dam0007 Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 There it is Question? is the new curado the new scorpion, alderbaren the core... etc? In general minus the little differences? Quote
bootytrain Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 This is the new curado equivalent for Japan. Quote
kschultz76 Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Question? is the new curado the new scorpion, alderbaren the core... etc? In general minus the little differences? Bantam1 stated on another forum that the Scorpion is the same reel as the new Curado at a higher price. However what's interesting is the Scorpion appears to be advertised with 2 more bearings then the new Curado. Also interesting that they will have two different points of origin for manufacturing. Also interesting is that the Scorpion in that pic is a lefty, but JapanTackle doesn't seem to be taking pre orders in the lefty. Quote

That's where the difference comes from. And usually Shimano JDM uses higher quality bearings than USDM Quote

Just curious that Bantam1 said they were the same reel when there are these kinds of differences. Quote
Hogsticker Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 The extra cost has to be for something, otherwise you're just paying for a different color reel. Though it is cool to have something a little different than everyone else. I wonder how much the XTs will be discounted if at all. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted February 11, 2014 Super User Posted February 11, 2014 I think the image is reversed, which is what makes it look LH. (Joking) I've been told the reel is made in Japan as well. Different handle and bearing upgrdaes over the curado. Quote
