Going all green pumkin for the new year

While lying awake in the middle of the night last night  i admitted to myself that i have a soft plastic addiction.In an effort to work out a compromise with my inner self and also to make my bps gift cards goes as far as possible i have worked out a plan in that any new soft plastics that i purchase this new year will be in the all purpose color green pumpkin.Please wish me luck!

Is Black with blue flake and black with red flake just like Junebug and Black Neon. I see alot of companies have a junebug color and a black and blue flake color

Black/red flake is usually the same as black neon.  Black/blue flake isn't the same as junebug...at least it doesn't look that way to me.

Its a good plan and i definitely understand where you are coming from as far as simplifying your choices, but i would consider using 3 different colors instead of one and  the million that are out there. My 3 choices would be

1. Green pumpkin (you nailed that one on the head)

2. Black w/ blue flake ( a must have color)

3. contrasting color bait of your liking( for me its pumpkin seed w/ chartreuse tail).

Junebug is actually a purple "ish" color.  Next time you have one in your hand, hold it up to the light and take a look.  I do that with some of my plastics to get a better understanding of what the true colors of the lures are, particularly with lures that I am dropping down to the fish that the fish are looking up at such as flipping baits or worms.

Don't forget watermellon/red...there goes your well rounded plan.

Last year I made a similiar decision. Only I went with 5 basic colors. It was extremely productive.

1)Green Pumpkin with red flake

2)Watermelon with Purple Flake

3)Junebug with Red Flake

4)Black with Blue Flake

5)Black with Red Flake

Thats my brush hog box. In other bait types I may have selected different colors, but the iidea was the same. Sweet Beavers I did the same thing, but colors may be different and so on. The only exception was my drop shot baits.

My best colors of those brush hogs? The top 2. None on the last one, and very limited on #3 and #4.

I've been really digging BamaBug. My two favorite colors combined, June Bug/Green Pumpkin...

You're really limiting yourself by just using one color. If that color isn't working, what are you gonna do?

You can't switch to a different color if that's all you have.

I would take the advice above and get some other colors as well such as, junebug or watermelon. JMO

Black & Black/Blue will do just fine

The way I look at it, as long as you have a wide variety (at least 5), at least one of those colors will work. I usually just take out the five colors that I have the most confidence in, and going through the process of seeing which on the fish want on that particular day.

Hmmm, let me see ..... making some memmory ..... my fishing pal Moy fishes with Watermelon ( or some metal flake variation ) practically year round, practically all the time and does fine. Don 't see any reason why I would suppose you wouldn 't be as succesful using green pumpkin only .

I fish mainly clear lakes so most of my soft plastics are either watermelon or green pumpkin.I seem to catch more fish on green pumpkin so i decided i am going to buy most of my new soft plastics in this color.I can see the need for a darker color for cloudy days or muddier water so i decided to add black& blue to the new binder mix.

Exactly. Watermelon red is a 'must have' color.

You cannot cure an addiction by overindulging in it. My advice to you would be to take up jigs or hard baits. As you asked I shall wish you luck, although watermelon red flake would have been my choice.

Junebug is purple plastic/green flake.  Black neon is black plastic/red flake.

Same here. This guy uses nothing but watermelon/black flake and scoffs at the idea of using any other color. He does very well catching above average sized fish.

FWIW, there was a guy featured on the Bassmaster Day On The Lake series maybe a year ago that believed in limiting his jig colors to only green pumpkin and black/blue.

I read somewhere that Purple and Blue are the colors fish see best in Deep Water. Any truth to this?

I decided to limit myself in the same way last year. Now I pretty much only buy a plastic in two colors: green pumpkin and black/ black and blue. There are some exceptions for special deals or certain baits that I'll buy in shad colors and the occasional purple but most of my box is green and black/blue

The one thing I noticed about junebug is it varies from different mfgs. Most of the other "core" colors are pretty much the same.

Jeez a guy who sells baits saying you need to have more colors...........who would have guessed that.

I myself carry more than one color,  but I think you be just fine sticking with GP. I catch fish on it in crystal clear water, and in dirty water. It's about the most "all purpose" color out there, and If I could only have one color that would probably be it.
