New Jig And Frog Setup Help

Ok so I want to add 2 new setups this year 1 jig and 1 frog. I am a recreational fisherman so I don't have some of the awesome setups I see on here but seek some advice.

I currently have 3 setups. 2 Lightning Rods. 1 casting setup with 12lb YoZuri Hybrid MH. I used this for mostly plastics and tried numerous lures for learning the bait caster. 1 spinning with 8lb yozuri M. I used this for primarily Senkos and a few lighter lures. My 3rd rod which I setup for dropshot with Seagur Invix (spinning).

That being said, I would like to try jigs and I fished a spot last year that has a lot of lily pads and I think it might be great for a frog setup. I was debating to go and get 2 BPS PQ combos for these. Any advice on rod/action, line, and how I could better utilize my current rods would be must appreciated. Thank you.

Don't know much about jigs but throw some braid on that mh lighting combo and you have a frog rod.

I fish PQ reels.  I don't know much about the PQ rods.  For the money, they are great reels.  My current frog rod is a Falcon Lowrider 7'H. I have 2 jig rod.  A 6'10MH Falcon Cara jig rod and a 7'3H Falcon Cara Amistad.

If you mean PQ Combos (PQ Tournament Rods), stay away from the rod.  If you saying PQ Combo with Carbonlite, I would say go for it.  I don't own one myself but people here mostly have good to great things to say about them. 

 

As for the two setups - there are two ways you could do this.  One is what a previous poster said, that Lightning stick MH could double as your frog rod.  2nd option, my recommendation for a "jig rod" would depend how heavy you'd go.  In general I would probably get a MH/F Carbonlite (7') with a PQ. would be my preference.  For your frog rod I would I would go 7' too heavy fast, same combo.  The length if your preference, but I prefer 7' rods especially for jigs and frogs.

Thanks guys. Would it make sense to line my lighting with mono and have it as a spinnerbait/top water?

Kicker I was thinking Carbonlite. For jigs, I been watching a lot of videos (BassResource and such) and am intrigued by the football jig as well as some swim jigs. What type of jigs would you suggest for a MH/F Carbonlite 7?

I don't have experience with a Carbonlite myself, but I'm sure it can handle both those just fine.  I don't normally fish much football head jigs (the places I fish aren't ideal for them), but on the occassions I do, I use my  854 GLX...1/2 oz to 3/4 oz, if I go heavier/deeper I will use my Heavy/XF Aetos 7'6".  My best advice I can give you is, take a look at the Carbonlite and check the weight range it can handle and think about how heavy you are going to use most of the time and make the decision for MH or H.  Maybe someone who owns one can chime in for you?  As for my swim jig rod, I don't normally go heavier than 1/2 oz, I will use MH/F rods with no issues.  I'm not advocating in my post that you should go buy 3 different rods, just telling you what I use.  Overall a MH/F rod would be ideal for any jigs period.
