Berkley Havoc Skeet's Sick Fish Swimbait

Hi guys

 

Any opinions on these baits?

 

I bought a pack and and going to try swimbaits for the first time tomorrow. I bought a pack of the owner weighted swimbait hooks with the little spinner attached. 

 

I assume the best way to fish these is to allow them to sink and then crank them back nice and slowly? 

 

Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

I like them. Caught some decent fish on them last spring when the water was too clear for cranking or swimjigs. Some guys say they don't swim well at slow speeds, but I went through several packs of the 4" ones and nevr had a problem with them swimming at slow speeds. The plastic/paint smell they have is potent, I keep mine well lubed with megestrike. I fish them on the VMC weighted "Ike approved" swimbait hooks. 5/0, 1/4 oz works good for the 4" size from the bank out to 15' FOW or so, any deeper than that and you'll want more weight.

Thanks ww2. Gold nugget and green penny are great imitations of an indigenous fish we have here in Natal called a Scaly.

I really like them. green penny swamp gas and gold nugget are my favorite. i cut the head off behind the eyes and fish them on a jig head 1/2-1oz for bottom bounciing. or vmc ike swimbait hooks for weedless presentation. or my favorite way to fish these is to get the 5 1/2" size take an ink pen tube and extract some plastic from the thickest part of the body in between the two fins and glue in a 1/4-3/8 weight. Take a coffee stir straw and run it from the mouth to just below the gill plate add split ring and hook and you've got an awesome line thru for less than 6 bucks.

I really like them. I haven't had any problem with them not swimming at slow speeds and I don't add any scent to them and the fish don't seem to mind the plastic smell at all. They're tough for sure, I've caught more than 20 fish on them before they finally give up on me. I like to let them sink to the bottom then reel them as slow as I can stand. I also like to rig mine with a belly treble to help with hookups.

I bought one pack of the 4 inch sick fish. I did catch some above average size fish on it in comparison to other baits. People complain it doesnt move like the trash fish or whatever but it works for me.

Generally the people complaining about little movement at slow speeds have bought the colors that are heavily painted.

 

 

 

 

You can see colors like Disco Shad, Green Pumpkin or Swamp Gas have no paint on them. Those will have the best movement. Clear Bream is the most painted, and many complain about them have little to no movement. After using them a bit or even boiling them will loosen up some action.

If you cut off the little tab coming out of the paddle tail, they do end up with a little more side to side kick. Just something to try!

Thanks for the replies guys, the fishing wasn't great on Saturday with me landing only 5 dinks for the morning and my mate only got 1, none on the sick fish. 

 

Will try them again next trip

That one had landed 21 largemouth, 6 white bass, a few crappie, and a 3lb channel catfish that morning and was still going strong (minus an eye).

I grabbed a couple of these to try in the 4.5 and the 5" in the green penny they look good in the package glad to here the fish like'em too! At 2.99 it was to cheap not to snag a few bags.

 

@Bluebasser86 that is good idea can't hurt to have a little extra hook insurance
