I was wondering if yall had any suggestions for a good swimbait rod. I plan on using it for some 6' huds, punkers etc. The heaviest weight would probably be around 4oz. I would like to keep the price as low as possible. (under $150, under $100 would be amazing) Thanks.

There are quite a few options in that range. A few off the top of my head would be Okuma Guide Select 7'6" H or 7'11" H, St Croix Mojo Bass 7'9" H, Irod makes a few swimbait rods around that price. I have heard good things about the Irod's but have never fished one. I have the Okuma 7'6" H and the Mojo Bass 7'9" H. I like them both, but the Okuma feels better in my hands so it gets the most use. I'm sure others will chime in on other options fo you.

Good luck!

Check out the Okuma Guide Select Swimbait rods.  I would probably get either the 7'6" or 7'11" H.

Denali rods has a 7'11 flipping/rig rod that's an xh but with great tip. It's rated up to 3 oz.

one of the best Musky rods is a Tackle Industries rod.  They can handle heavier lures with ease and come in around $120 shipped.  They also make bass rods as well.

I've got the Dobyns 795 sb and love it. It's perfect for what your throwing.

A few posts like this were made a month or more ago (mine was one of them).  The overwhelming favorite was the Okuma Guide Select.  I picked one up.  7'6" rated for 1-5 oz.  It's light and looks great.  My shop does over the counter warranty of Okuma and Shimano.  I stick with them!

I got into swimbait fishing last year and now I really enjoy it.  But as far as the rods I use, I throw a Bass Pro Shops IMG Graphite Series Musky MH 7'6".  This works great on 4oz swimbaits and can pretty much cover any of the med to larger swimbaits you are interested in fishing.  And the best part, $59.99.  I throw 6 and 8" hudds on this rod all day.  The rod loads up nicely and has the power you need to move and control larger fish.  This gives you another option to get into swimbaits without breaking the bank. I now have 2, the 7'6"'s MH and H.  One with a cardiff 300 spooled with 40lb powerpro and 25lb p-line topshot and the other a Lexa 300 spooled with 65lb powerpro and 25lb floro topshot.  But the MH will cover what you're looking for as it's rated up to 10oz.  post-42748-0-76822600-1391813924_thumb.j

Get a 7' 10" BPS Extreme when they go on sale for $80. I've been using one for a couple years now and like it pretty well. I've fished baits up to a 8" Hudd on it without any issue.

I use my 7'6" H Abu Garcia Vendetta. $80, and a heck of a lot lighter and less tip heavy than the 7'9" St. Croix Mojo swimbait rod. It's not rated for as big of baits, but I throw 5 arm Alabama rigs with 1/4 or 3/8s oz. heads on each arm, and some 1 to 2oz. hard swimbaits with it, and it does fine. Plus it doubles as my flipping and punching rod. Pretty versatile stick for $80.

I got the Okuma GS 7'11" H about a month ago and I have only fished it once (blame it on the weather). I was throwing a 6" Hudd and it handled it very nicely.

Im definitely getting the Okuma. It looks like the most bang for the buck and there is nothing but great reviews about it. Thank y'all

Check out the new Abu Garcia Volatile musky rod. Rated to 4 ounces I think and quite light. I was looking for a swim bait rod also and handled it at BPS.Felt  a lot better than the Mojo and the Cucial

Anyone think I can toss a hudd 68 on my DX745? I know it's over the rods limit, but I'm fishing in open water and really don't feel like having to buy a new rod.. I'll only be throwing the hudd for a month or so during the pre spawn

You should be able to. I used my flipping/punching stick(rated up to 1.5oz as well) for a while with my 68.

I wouldn't recommend it over the guide select, but while they're on sale right now you can get it for $80, even less if you trade in a rod. For that price they make a pretty good swimbait rod though. I'd still be using mine if I hadn't won a free custom made swimbait rod :)

I purchased one of the Extremes and I've been impressed.  I plan on using it for a 10xd and a A-rig rod as well.

People may dislike me for saying this, but I really like the Wright & McGill Skeet Reese swimbait rod. 7'6" Med-Fast.
