I'm sure there are tons of topics on worms/grubs/creature baits etc.... but thats not what this thread is about. I have a bit of a personal delima. I am going to make a beginners guide to fishing with plastics and was curious what everyone here thinks. What are the most important aspects of fishing with soft plastic lures?

I came up with this...

  1. Lure Types (frogs, creatures, worms etc..)
  2. Lure Colors (blue, green, pumkin etc..)
  3. Retrieving Techniques
  4. Rigging (texas, carolina etc...)
  5. ......????

What else seems important to you guys?

What the bites feel like?

What rod/reel type?

Line

Hook sizing for the different size baits

Different presentation. Dead sticking, fast retrieve, rod tip raising vs slow hard jerks

What lures excel in the rivers, creeks

Number one thing to put in that book is to always have confidence that you are gonna catch a fish.

get a 5 gallon bucket, tie on a 1/2 oz jig or weight, place it about 5 ft away and practice flipping into it till you can get at least 8 out of ten in the bucket, them move it farther way and start again. I did this with my gson and now he out flips me.

I'd say different types of rigging, wacky, dropshot, texas, carolina, etc. What condition to use each in and a quick tackle guideline for each. I agree with to peg or not, but also when to use lead or tungsten also.
