conorsixtakc Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I'm curious to see how they perform compared to more traditional topwater poppers/chuggers. I'm looking for a 1/2 oz. topwater hardbait and trying to decide if it's worth going with the more complicated Pop Max design, or a more traditional popper like a Rico or Yellow Magic. History's taught me that the fancy lures catch fishermen, and the simple lures catch fish. Wondering if that applies here too. Quote
Jigs 4 Pigs Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Pop Max is awesome! It has 2 slits in the cup of the mouth that spit water out the gills on the side. Feather rear treble, sticky hooks, and sweet colors! Quote
BigMoneyGrip Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Heck yeah! The only thing I don't like about them is the finish. They will start to look old really quick. Quote
Maico1 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 The Pop Max is one popper you the fisherman will be happy you got caught by......get one and let the festivities begin.... Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted February 6, 2014 Super User Posted February 6, 2014 great popper, probably the best. 1 Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted February 7, 2014 Super User Posted February 7, 2014 It was mentioned quite often in a "Your Favorite Topwater" thread. It is a great bait with a vast amount of color choices and a unique sound in the water. They cast well and seem to have that 'it' factor. Defidently a good popper style bait. Quote
TrapperJ Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 I recently invested in the pop x, but I plan to add a pop max and even a dog x when top water season gets closer. Quote

Super User 00 mod Posted February 15, 2014 Super User Posted February 15, 2014 I like that one in the bottom left Twilight Secret. I am not sure that one is in production anymore. Found it in a little local bait shop off the beaten path. Might have to check fleabay for that color! Jeff Quote
BigMoneyGrip Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 What local shop? You're in Memphis, right? Quote

I know tha Samurai had some last time I ordered from them, but then when I was ordering some other stuff this winter it wasn't listed in the catalog. The one that I really like, color wise, is HT Ito Gill, and HT Ito Wakasagi- next to Tonosama Frog and Stealth Bait. Those are the four colors that I would have to have in PopMax. I have something like twelve of the things and almost all are of those colors. I'm also very fond of the PopX when the smaller bait is called for. 2 Quote

Super User Hooligan Posted February 15, 2014 Super User Posted February 15, 2014 If you have shiners where you are, at all, the Stealth Bait is a really, really good bait to throw, too. It's also excellent for fish that are a little hesitant to really get after a bait on the surface. It's sort of like the old clear spook. When they want to push the surface but won't fully commit, a lot of the time the Stealth will turn over the edge. I tease people about not really liking to fish topwater baits, and while it isn't my favorite, when I throw one, it's usually a Popmax first. 2 Quote
MacP Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 I can't take the plunge on one. The River 2 Sea bubble popper has been dandy for me (I just picked up a huge one). Although, Pop-Rs work great too. Quote
Maico1 Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 You can also get them here as well......http://www.ichibantackle.com/showproductdetail.asp?productid=893&name=POP%20MAX%20 2 Quote
