I'm curious to see how they perform compared to more traditional topwater poppers/chuggers. I'm looking for a 1/2 oz. topwater hardbait and trying to decide if it's worth going with the more complicated Pop Max design, or a more traditional popper like a Rico or Yellow Magic.

History's taught me that the fancy lures catch fishermen, and the simple lures catch fish. Wondering if that applies here too.

Pop Max is awesome! It has 2 slits in the cup of the mouth that spit water out the gills on the side. Feather rear treble, sticky hooks, and sweet colors!

The Pop Max is one popper you the fisherman will be happy you got caught by......get one and let the festivities begin....

It was mentioned quite often in a "Your Favorite Topwater" thread. It is a great bait with a vast amount of color choices and a unique sound in the water. They cast well and seem to have that 'it' factor. Defidently a good popper style bait.

I recently invested in the pop x, but I plan to add a pop max and even a dog x when top water season gets closer.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I figured I'd follow up with my purchase. Went with Ozark Shad. I can just tell this thing is special, it's going to be hard to throw anything else in the morning!

You sir, are a badass. I came across a table rock sp color, it's a purple back / chart side / orange white bottom. It was so hard to turn down. Maybe next month...

I am sure someone here has more than me.  I have the Gill, Threadfin Shad, SK, and Twilight Secret. Last 2 are new!  Retired 2 and replaced them!

Twilight Secret.  I am not sure that one is in production anymore.  Found it in a little local bait shop off the beaten path.  Might have to check fleabay for that color!

What local shop? You're in Memphis, right?

I was actually in Lakeview Arkansas. Big Reds Tackle. Went up there trout fishing last weekend.

I think it's a JDM limited run color, now.  I know tha Samurai had some last time I ordered from them, but then when I was ordering some other stuff this winter it wasn't listed in the catalog.  The one that I really like, color wise, is HT Ito Gill, and HT Ito Wakasagi- next to Tonosama Frog and Stealth Bait.  Those are the four colors that I would have to have in PopMax.  I have something like twelve of the things and almost all are of those colors.  I'm also very fond of the PopX when the smaller bait is called for.

If you have shiners where you are, at all, the Stealth Bait is a really, really good bait to throw, too.  It's also excellent for fish that are a little hesitant to really get after a bait on the surface.  It's sort of like the old clear spook.  When they want to push the surface but won't fully commit, a lot of the time the Stealth will turn over the edge.  I tease people about not really liking to fish topwater baits, and while it isn't my favorite, when I throw one, it's usually a Popmax first.

I can't take the plunge on one.  The River 2 Sea bubble popper has been dandy for me (I just picked up a huge one).  Although, Pop-Rs work great too.
