Which Tournament Trail To Follow?

Hi,

I am 38 and about to finish my 20 in the Air Force.  I plan to go on to the airline industry and in my spare time, the wife and I want to hit the road and fish professionally.  I am fairly new to bass fishing, though I was born and raised in Idaho, so I have fishing experience. This is my first year in a bass club (FLW affiliation).

 

If you were me, which trail would you take, FLW or BM?  Thanks.

FLW will be easier to break into if you intend to go all the way. You have a much better chance to qualify to fish the forest wood cup than you do the classic.

I agree with jhoffman.  FLW sets up better for co-anglers also.

You might even check out the Rayovac Series.  It will be a good place to start also.  Even fishing the BFL would give plenty of opportunities.

BFL is a good starting point.  I would suggest finding some team trails first.  Take the wife along and learn to compete in a tournament setting.  You will find that it is way different than recreational and the competition is surprisingly really tough since your fishing against locals that know the lake very well.  If your wife likes to fish she can be your partner and if she likes it...... Well lets just say it makes getting permission to fish a whole lot easier!!  Good luck and thank you for your service to our country!!

You might want to fish locally for a few years and see if you're any good at it.    Everyone thinks they are halfway decent at fishing until they fish their first tournaments.
