Spro Vs. BPS

Im looking to get into frog fishing this spring and was wondering if the BPS Kermy frogs were as good as the SPRO Bronze Eye frogs. The BPS ones are half the price, but is it worth the extra $5 for a SPRO? How are the hook quality on both?

The body on the BPS Kermy is hard as a rock and doesn't compress very well. The skirted legs will come off after one strike. I will never buy one again. Idc spending the $8 for a Spro because they will last forever as long as you don't loose it.

I like mine, but I haven't fished a Spro frog.

Scum Frogs are good for the price, as mentioned above.

I don't have a prob;em with the kermy frog you can make them walk just as well as you can a Spro frog, I do believe that the kermys hooks are of lesser quality and the body is a little harder than that of a Spro frogs.

That being said, there are other alternatives.  Like mentioned, Scumfrog makes a pretty good frog that is roughly half the price

Idc spending the $8 for a Spro because they will last forever as long as you don't loose it.

   I've had a Junior for around 3 years and it will still catch fish . Te thing looks like it went through a vacume cosmetically, but the body and hooks are fine. The only problem is after a while the legs get a little old, but how many of us have 3year old spinnerbaits that we treat like frogs.....

I've heard the same thing about the Koppers, but also that their bodies are harder and the hooks duller. I personally have no experience with them, just repeating what I've heard. I personally will not fish with anything other than a Bronzeye when fishing frogs. To me they are worth the money, and are the best performing frogs I've ever used.

I have Scumfrog, Koppers, SPRO and Cabelas JR. The Scumfrogs are the softest of these with Koppers next and SPRO 3rd. Koppers had the dullest hooks. Sorry dont have BPS

I did pretty good with the scum frogs this year. My only gripe is that they sink after a few fish. I bought 2 spro frogs during the spring of 2009. I haven't gotten another since. All it takes is one little pike to get it good, and it tears.

The scum frogs have been just as good, but cheaper. And actually, my hookup ratio increased with the scum frogs. I don't think it's because they are softer though. I think it has more to do with the fact that they don't float as well, thus leaving more of the frog below the surface and easier for a fish to get.

My biggest bass this year came on a scum frog, and i lost another even bigger on one. I fish with frogs probably 10% of the time. I never thought of a frog as a big fish bait until this year.

I'd say Spro >>> BPS > Scumfrog.

The BPS are nothing special, and are fairly good for $5. The Scumfrogs are flimsy and too soft for fishing heavy cover, IMO. They snag often which spooks a large section of weedbed when you yank it out or go in to retrieve it. The softer the frog, the easier they are to snag because they're so easily compressed. Like another poster said, you get what you pay for.

Another alternative is the Snag Proof lineup, which are priced in between the Spro and BPS frogs. The Snag Proofs appear to be good sellers locally but still end up in bargain bins at local retailers for $5 in the fall. The Snag Proof Phat Frog is my favorite overall, with the Bronzeye 65 a close second. I was able to pick up a 5 year supply of Phat Frogs last year at $5 apiece. I would recommend that you try one of those in black.

The way I see it, too much is made out of how soft or stiff a frog body is. A rubber frog is no match for a bass that can crush a crayfish or take down a large baitfish. Most frog hookup issues are the angler setting the hook too quick and then blaming the body for not compressing. Back in the 80's Snag Pruf frogs were catching fish long before Spro was around.

I look at how a frog sits upon landing and the ability to land upright every time. This is more important to me than body softness. Slightly tweak the hook points up with pliers if that's what it takes.

Paint jobs mean nothing to me as long as the belly is some shade of white.

All of the frogs mentioned (except the BPS, which I have not seen and can't give an opinion on) will catch fish. I'll give Spro the edge for casting distance based on my experience. Based on David P's reviews, I'll give Snag Pruf's Bobby's Perfect Frog a shot this year.

I have both..I'll never buy another bps frog, so Spro hands down.. 8-)
