Anyone Here Repair And Clean Up Reels?

Ive ot a reel with a broken gear and my others could use a cleaning / lube. Anyone do this for extra $?

There's a video on here that shows you how you can clean your own equipment. I couldn't imagine letting someone else touch my reels.

As you can see, for some 'do it yourself' is the only answer. For many of us Mike at DVT is the go-to guy. He does great work at reasonable prices.

Well, for some of the less gifted, like me, "do-it-yourself" is not the best option. 

Mike does a great job and if you can pop for a few extra bucks, have him super-

tune your reel!

In my case there´s nobody I can send my reels for clean & repair, I had to learn to do it myself and I still have to be extra careful when I disassemble a reel, down here there are no spare parts, if I screw it I´m screwed for weeks. them teeny tiny parts have the habit of boldly going at warp speed where no other part has gone before to be found no more.

 

If I were you I would gladly send my reels to a professional like DVT.

+whatever we're up to for Mike at DVT.  He's a class act and does a great job.  Has both cleaned a reel and built a rod for me, very satisfied on both counts.

heres the video.  all reels will follow the same design principles, screws and bolts may not be in the exact same places, but they will be close.  just take your time and lots of pictures as you disassemble so that you will be able to know what you did as you put it back together...  you can also look online for schematics of the reel from the manufacturer.

I'm one of those guys who doesn't like to tinker.  Mike has done several of my reels.  However, learning to do my own is something I need to start doing as my arsenal has reached the point where cost would be prohibitive to pay someone else to clean them all every year.

 

There is a thread not too far back started by a gentleman who has been servicing his own reels for 50 years.  He recently tried Mike and was impressed with the quality of work done by Mike.  Nuff said.
