He can't afford a new computer?

On a windows side note we had a strange screen appear on win 7 lap top yesterday.  The screen went white with big letters saying CLOSE with a large X.  I'm sorry I didn't a pic to submit to MSFT as I could find nothing online to indicate what went wrong.  Luckily a system restore put the lap top back where it should be, ran virus scan and no threats were found.

Wife went against my advice and got Windows 8 on her new laptop.

I is driving her crazy.

Can't get the printer to work, now, for some unknown reason.

On my computers I run Windows Millenium, Windows 7, and Windows 8 I am running Windows 8 with no problem now, but since I don't have a touch screen, I use a mouse much like (but not identically) in other Windows environments. I have now acclimated but it WASN'T easy. I'd rather be fishing

I'm running Windows 8 on my work computer and have recently updated to 8.1. Not gonna lie, updating to 8.1 was a painful process that took several hours to install and a password reset which freaked me out a bit because I thought I lost all business information. It was that freaky because it felt like you were installing a whole new operating system, but thankfully, everything was there in the end.

It took me a while to customize 8.1 so I have most useful apps on my desktop, but it was a painful transition. Right now I don't mind it, but, for what I need a computer for in my field, I was much happier running XP...LOL

Next time use the alt key and f4, it closes any pop up screen. Unfortunately if u moved your cursor over that window that action could allow malicious software to download, the restore will work momentarily but the virus is still there. Your antivirus will not recognize it as any contact.with the popup with your cursor gives the program permission to d/l

the printer is probably older than windows 8 i am guessing, and not compatible with windows 8. try searching online for your model of printer and the updated drivers for windows 8 to make them compatible...

wasn't a pop up screen

Alt F4 will close any screen not just internet pop ups. Unless you've changed the color scheme a system crash screen is typically blue. If it starts taking longer to start up or load u may have a problem. I once had a virus that mirrored my computer to someone else's screen, only my firewall saved me.

Exactly what I had to do when I installed my Epson printer to my Windows 8 work computer....It was quick and painless...for me anyway

That is a Trojan.

Also, windows 8 is stupid.
