Garret88 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Chronarch CI4+ 150....I'm in love. Much smoother than my Revo STX which is brand new out of the box. Not smoother than my SX or Winch but those were used for a season are actually broken in. It almost has made me consider returning the STX and buy another Shimano. 1 Quote
bootytrain Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Nothing wrong with some variety dude lol.. I find that you appreciate a reels charachteristics more when you have different ones. Quote

Oh I agree 100% I believe you can possibly lose out on something good when you dont have variety. but the ci4+ makes me think i can put that 200$ for the STX to better use. I love my revo sx and winch. Im not knocking revos. the stx just feels different. I wish I could remember if my sx and winch felt the same as the stx does before i broke them in. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted February 6, 2014 Super User Posted February 6, 2014 I switched to Daiwa and Shimano after using a few Abu's. I find the level of craftsmanship better than that of the cookie cutter reels. I never planned on getting a CI4+ myself, but I saw one in Cabelas and fell in love. When the display reel is silky smooth and freespools like no tomorrow, you've got a good reel. I'm anxious to see how this new Curado compares. 2 Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted February 6, 2014 Super User Posted February 6, 2014 I had my ci4 about one week before I ordered another. HAD to have 2 of them...lol. Hootie Quote

Grantman83 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I was thinking about picking one up based on all the sweet reviews but the Tatula craze has pushed the price of Zillions down to some crazy lows so I am stuck lol. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted February 6, 2014 Super User Posted February 6, 2014 I remember when I unboxed my first Shimano. I now have 12.....just lettin ya know what you're in for. Hootie Quote

I just picked up a chronarch ci4, it is pretty sweet... I also own a 3rd gen revo sx,stx and mgx... My stx is like butter compared to the sx, it's much smoother... Maybe your stx needs the bearings oiled... I can't wait to get out and use the ci4 and see how smooth it is Quote

MediumHeavy Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 If any of you guys haven't had a chance to cast those Chronarch Ci4+ reels yet, just wait until you do. You think you like it now... just wait 1 Quote

Keep in mind that the revo SX is mag brakes only while the STX is centrifugal and mag brakes. If its new Im willing to bet all 6 are on. I personally like my STX but had no love for my curado G and citica. Im really hoping that the zillion Type-R comes down a little or it will be between the Lews BB-1 or the CI4. Quote
Super User Raul Posted February 6, 2014 Super User Posted February 6, 2014 Completely agree, theres enough variety between shimano & daiwa Exactly. There´s a lot to choose between both brands. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 6, 2014 Super User Posted February 6, 2014 Congrats on the reel. I felt the same way when I got my first Shimano bait caster last summer, the Chronarch 50e. Love my Daiwas, too, though Quote

I can click the spool button on my STX and spin the spool manually and it spins forever, so I dont believe the braking system. I think the gear system when reeling isnt as smooth as the shimano or my other revos. Maybe I just need to mess with it more to break it in a little bit better, or its possible I got the one bad reel out of a lot like when you see the 1 bad review out of 20 reviews talking about something grinding. Honestly I would contact Abu garcia and see what thay can do for you. too many people complain about a product of some forums when the company would be happy to help. I have a few shimano spinning reels and love them but I had a bad experience with a citica so I tried a curado G and just didnt like it. I do really like my Lexa and revos. Quote
daiwaguy Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Hurry up and box it up to send it back. They sent you the wrong brand reel! Just kidding. Congrats that is a great reel. Quote

Breaks my heart but the newer STX's are not as nice as the earlier versions which are really outstanding. I think they tried to shave off some weight or build them cheaper or something but...not the same reel. Very disappointing. So supposed to be the same core, but will feel way better: Lews tourny pro. Take your STX back and get one of those to add a little flavor to your reel collection and to go with your new chronarch. Lews TP is what the STX should be. Great reel. Quote

Garret88 Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 That's odd my stx is way smoother than the sx reeling I have never used the STX yet, where I have a season under my belt with the SX, so its definitely broken in. But I really feel like its not a matter of the STX being broken in. Quote

I will definitely look into a Lews. I am also considering a Tatula 100 Type R because its the same price as the STX. I like the max drag on the Daiwa and its a little heavier so it may balance out my Flipping rod better than the STX Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted February 7, 2014 Super User Posted February 7, 2014 Just unpacked my first Ci4+. Besides for enough grease in the bearings to style all the hair in Mad Men, the thing is butta'. I can definitely see myself with another one or 2 of these in the arsenal. Awesome , awesome, awesome. Spring can't get here soon enough. 2 Quote
