Bass Not Biting On Jigs?

Is there a chance that the particular lake that I fish is not inhabited by crawfish? For some reason, and yes I've tried everything, these bass will not hit a jig. Flipping, pitching, dragging, dead sticking, hopping.. Nothing works. For some reason the only thing I've has luck with at this lake, especially, is the Carolina rig. 1/2 ounce tungsten weight, 2-1/2' leader, 2/0 hook, and a trick worm.

To include a little more info, this lake is only about 250'x1000', with med/heavy submerged grass with some sandy spots. So crank baits, spinnerbaits, drop shots, and shaky heads are out of the question. They all get stuck in this heavy grass.

If there are bass in a body of water, they will bite on a jig. Try a bitsy bug jig by strike king and a small trailer. I will sometimes use a 3" chigger craw on them. If you need an extra small trailer, look for strike king's bitsy bug craw. BPS has all of these.

I love these little jigs; almost always catch some bass on these when I need to downsize.

I'd link the Berkley Chigger Craws but you most likely already know about those. They are my absolute favorite craw - my go to bait actually.

If the grass is fully submerged, try to fish a wake bait on top of it. Buzzbait, maybe some some plastic frogs. I like to rig a Berkley Subwoofer on a keel weighted hook and fish it topwater, works great over grass and between weeds.

 

I know you ruled out crankbaits, if at all possible, try some lipless cranks around there. Barely tick the grass and rip when necessary.

You are describing a pond not a lake.

It is possible the pond doesn't support either a adult size bass population or enough crawdads to interest the few bass.

Aquatic weeds or grass doesn't root in sand, however mat grow over sandy areas on the surface in the form of weed mats. Bass like to suspend under the floating weed mat and jigs are good dropped through small openings.

My guess is you are not fishing the right spots, or using too heavy of a jig for the pond.

I didn't see it in your post, but around here if a pond has a lot of grass in it, then the water is fairly clear.  Try a smaller size jig and pop it across the top of the grass.

Swim jig for sure.....try to parallel the edges and they will show themselves.  They can't resist it!!

Never caught a fish on a jig. I've tried them plenty of times just lost all hope. Same with spinner baits

I've had the same exact issue. I'm a jig junky and went to this pond with a buddy of mine and struggled for while to catch one on a jig. It's very likely there aren't any crayfish and therefore do not really want a jig. That being said, when I tried swimming it, it likely looked like a bluegill or something and I managed a few more fish. My suggestion, try a senko or something more simple on pond bass.

X's 2 with the Strike King tour grade swim jig. Try a 1/4 oz to 3/8 oz with a rage menace or a rage grub. Try power swimming and steady retrieves holding your rod about 10 o'clock position. Be sure to really trim the skirt just even with the hook to give it a smaller profile until you figure out where the bass are hiding.

Many waters that I catch bass on a jig has probably never seen a crawfish.

Crawfish or no crawfish in your pond....if there are bass in there, they will hit a jig. Sounds more a problem of location than about forage.
