Slefler Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I can't decide on which one I would like. I'm looking into either the Veracity 7'3 med/hvy or the Crucial 7'2 Med X Fast. It will either be used as a Texas Rig/Jig rod or a spinnerbait rod. It will be paired with a Lew's Tournament Pro Speed Spool 6.4:1. I'm looking for any advice based on experience or preference and why. Any help is appreciated. Quote
jtesch Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I have that Crucial and love it. It truly is an xf action which I prefer. Nice and light and very sensitive, might be a little fast for spinner baits. I use it for lighter jigs and texas rigs. The over the counter rod replacement is something to consider as well. I have a bunch of Crucial's and Cumaras and have broken a couple (both my fault) and had no problem getting replacements no questions asked. Quote
Slefler Posted February 6, 2014 Author Posted February 6, 2014 That's what I figured about it being too fast but wasn't entirely sure. After handling both at BPS two weeks ago I'm leaning more towards the Crucial. The OTC Replacement is a bonus for sure. 1 Quote
Lewi Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I would go with the Veracity as I found it very balanced with multiple reels but that's why opinions are great! I had a chance to handle both of them and the Abu felt better to "me." Now, I will not take anything away from the Shimano either as it seemed like a nice rod also. -Lewi Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 6, 2014 Super User Posted February 6, 2014 Crucial hands down! I've used a MH Xfast for T-rig/light jigs since they hit the market 15-20 yrs ago, I'm on my third, they hold up that good. Quote
LivewellHero Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Haven't used the Veracity, but have used the Veritas. It's nice, just lots of issues with quality control, especially on the guides. I'd stay away from Abu rods. I have a Shimano Compre and that exact Crucial. Fantastic rods, the Crucial is the best rod I own, a true piece of art! Beautiful rod, super high quality, extremely sensitive, and light! Go with the Crucial! Quote
Mike2841 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I have a 6'6" mh veracity that I use mostly for buzzbaits, it is very light and well balanced (although that may be attributed to the relatively short length). I have not used a crucial, but I think that a mh crucial would be more comparable to the mh veractiy as abus are known for being pretty stiff rods. Quote
Dramer77 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Abu has to many rod quality issues.. I'd go with the crucial Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted February 6, 2014 Super User Posted February 6, 2014 If you're using it for Texas rigs and jigs, I think you'd want a medium heavy no matter the brand. Quote
daiwaguy Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 If you're using it for Texas rigs and jigs, I think you'd want a medium heavy no matter the brand. x2! I noticed the original post had M for the Crucial power. I would go wiht a MH unless you are using it most of the time for the spinnerbait. Quote
Slefler Posted February 6, 2014 Author Posted February 6, 2014 Shimano has a Crucial MH X Fast its only 6'8, that's only 4 inches taller than I am. I guess if I went that route I could get accustomed to the short rod length. Well nevermind I checked their Crucial Frog Rod and they have 7'2 MH X Fast. Would there be much of a difference between the two minus the obvious length? I'm shopping from TW that's where I'm getting these rod lengths and measurements from. Quote
Dramer77 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 They have a crucial worm and jig 7'2" mh-F Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted February 7, 2014 Super User Posted February 7, 2014 They have a crucial worm and jig 7'2" mh-F x2 I have the Worm and Jig one...wherever you are looking may not have it that one in stock? It was my go to jig and worm rod until I bought my Cumaras/GLXs/Cumulus. It is now my backup rod or spinnerbait rod, nothing wrong with it just like the higher end ones when it comes to jigs and worms. Quote
Slefler Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 Yea I found the worm and jig rod on their website now I'm just looking where to buy it, my local BPS store was out so I'll just keep checking with them. Thanks for the help! 1 Quote

Thanks for the help! You can check with dicks sporting goods, or wait till TW,BTD or one of the other online venders has their cabin fever sale here next month.. I got my ci4 and cumara 25% off last weekend during a Super Bowl sale Quote
Slefler Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 I saw that deal and immediately became ticked I didn't have the money to spend on anything. Nice pickup in those two though! I want to get the new Curado and see how low the prices dip on the 200G's and maybe even the Chronarch. The problem is convincing my other half the need for more than two decent set ups. She has yet to grasp the analogies I've used to my defense thus far. I checked BTD and they have them, I've never used them so thanks again. Quote
mjseverson24 Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 I personally like the crucial 7'2" M/XF for texas rigs it is a lighter more balanced rod than the MH version, it is nice and crisp with the XF tip and IM10 graphite, if you are using weights over about 3/8 to 1/2 oz i would go with the MH but if it is 3/8 and less the M will do great. The veracity also looks like a good rod, I have had no issues with poor quality rods with abu they have all been light and sensitive and they can take a beating. Mitch Quote
21farms Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 just a couple of more things to consider: abu rods inexplicably have metal buttcaps...if you stand them up on end on a hard surface, they'll slide out from under themselves and come crashing down . abu rods also have a metal locknut which has a tendency to scratch the heck out of the front of your reel foot...never mount a magnesium-framed reel on an abu rod because that locknut will scrape off the protective layer and expose the magnesium to corrosion. on the other hand, the metal nut holds the reel in place very well and does not need tightening throughout the day like some other rods. on the crucials, be careful about overtightening the rear handle when mounting a reel. mine broke free with not a whole lot of pressure (shimano replaced it with a brand new rod). Slefler Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 Thanks for all the feedback, I think I'm gonna go with the 7'2 MH Crucial but further down the road I might pick up an Abu Garcia Veracity for a spinnerbait rod or maybe top water. As of right now I have no clue, I read an awesome article on how and what you need for a diverse "aresenal". In a couple months I'll most likely end up posting another topic on what reel should go with what rod....etc Quote
jtesch Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Shimano makes a Crucial "spinnerbait" rod that I believe is 7'2" and I know you could throw a jig or worm with it. It has a little softer action than the w/j rod but isn't a moderate action like a lot of spinnerbait rods 1 Quote
