RyneB Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 I recently purchased a JM Carbonlight 7'6" heavy rod to throw my Hudd 68's, mattlures gill and my bigger California swim jigs with big swimbait trailers. I was dead set on the tatula, but have also been eyeing up the CI4. I know for a fact that both perform well, but I need some input from you swimbait guys. What reel would be better for what im using it for. I don't want the reel too feel too small for the baits ill throw. I would go round reel, but I feel this rod and whatever reel I match with it, will be a multi purpose setup. Maybe even pitching and flipping. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted February 5, 2014 Super User Posted February 5, 2014 Of the two, the Tatula. Ideally, I'd want a bigger reel to handle swimbaits. Quote
camman Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 From a swimbait perspective I like a low geared reel so i can slowly swim the bait. The Tatula has a 5.4:1 reel which fits the bill while the Chronarch does not come in a lower gear. Second is line capacity, are you fishing braid or mono? If you are fishing mono and depending on how heavy, you probably want the Tatula as it has a larger line capacity. I usually throw my Hudd 68s on anywhere between 15-20 lb mono depending on where I'm fishing. If you are fishing braid than either reel will have plenty of capacity. If you are looking for more of a multi-purpose rod/reel, I'd go with the 6:3.1....than it really comes down to personal preference and whatever feels better in your hand. Quote
CJV Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 I am a diehard Shimano fan and recently bought my first daiwa about 2 months ago which is the Tatula and I must say it's very smooth on the retrieve almost like "air" smooth it's insane. I also have the chronarch ci4+ and I have the Tatula paired on my iRod air which is my frog/flippin/buzzbait setup and I use my chronarch ci4+ for square bills/medium divers. Let me first say that both of these reels are amazing but for the kind of technique you are looking to use the reel for I would easily say Tatula for sure! Quote
Super User tomustang Posted February 5, 2014 Super User Posted February 5, 2014 Bypass the two and find a bigger reel with more line capacity Quote
