Bass2124 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I have heard that some anglers tying their braided line directly to their lures especially crankbaits and jerkbaits. I have always attached 3 to 6' of flourcarbon leader. Does it really matter or is it personal preference? Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 My water is slightly stained and I usually tie 20# Power Pro directly. I try flouro leader and in my situation found no difference. 1 Quote
Super User RoLo Posted February 4, 2014 Super User Posted February 4, 2014 Does it really matter or is it personal preference? Well put. This reminds me of George Costanza's line to Sienfield: "Remember Jerry, if you believe it...it is not a lie" Roger 1 Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted February 4, 2014 Super User Posted February 4, 2014 When I fish braid I tie direct. Like you said though, it's personal preference. 1 Quote
conorsixtakc Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Braid direct, especially when on the bottom. Quote
papajoe222 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I have no problems using braid for most applications, but there are times when I will either use a FC leader or straight FC. Clear/ pressured water makes up 80% of those and if possible, I'll go with all flouro in those situations. It isn't that I don't have confidence in using any kind of leader, It's that adding another knot to my connection with a lure increases the possibility of knot failure. The other thing, and it may be a personal preference, is I don't like loosing baits and attaching a lighter line as a leader increases that possibility. BTW, moving this topic to rod, reels and line forum would likely get you more responses. Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I tie directly to the lure with 50 lb power pro. The water is insanely clear up here, I am can see bottom in 30 feet. Doesn't seem to matter even if I am fishing clear water. I think it is about personal preference. If your going to tie directly to the lure tie a palomar knot or a double palomar knot. 1 Quote
SudburyBasser Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I rarely use a FC leader because I haven't found any real difference between that and tying braid directly. Personal preference in my case I suppose. Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted February 6, 2014 Super User Posted February 6, 2014 I only use braid for my frogs but I have used it for cranks and swimbaits too. I have never used any type of leader I think it is mostly preference when someone decides to tie a leader or directly to the lure Quote

Agreed, only knots I'll use with braid. Quote
