I have heard that some anglers tying their braided line directly to their lures especially crankbaits and jerkbaits.  I have always attached 3 to 6' of flourcarbon leader.  Does it really matter or is it personal preference?

Well put.

This reminds me of George Costanza's line to Sienfield: "Remember Jerry, if you believe it...it is not a lie"

I have no problems using braid for most applications, but there are times when I will either use a FC leader or straight FC.  Clear/ pressured water makes up 80% of those and if possible, I'll go with all flouro in those situations.

It isn't that I don't have confidence in using any kind of leader, It's that adding another knot to my connection with a lure increases the possibility of knot failure.  The other thing, and it may be a personal preference, is I don't like loosing baits and attaching a lighter line as a leader increases that possibility.

BTW, moving this topic to rod, reels and line forum would likely get you more responses.

I tie directly to the lure with 50 lb power pro. The water is insanely clear up here, I am can see bottom in 30 feet. Doesn't seem to matter even if I am fishing clear water. I think it is about personal preference. If your going to tie directly to the lure tie a palomar knot or a double palomar knot.

I rarely use a FC leader because I haven't found any real difference between that and tying braid directly. Personal preference in my case I suppose.

I only use braid for my frogs but I have used it for cranks and swimbaits too. I have never used any type of leader I think it is mostly preference when someone decides to tie a leader or directly to the lure

Agreed, only knots I'll use with braid.
