Super User bigbill Posted February 4, 2014 Super User Posted February 4, 2014 From my hottest crankbaits to my hottest senko, stik o worm colors why do they sell out to the point they end up being discontinued? I tried the Amber flake stik o worms from BPS and they are the hottest color in my area. I no longer see this color and flake combination being offered. Even the senko brand no longer offers this hot color. Why? Quote
Super User geo g Posted February 4, 2014 Super User Posted February 4, 2014 It doesnt make sense that they stopped production. Sounds like they cant stay up with demand, and are sold out in your area. Quote
Super User Teal Posted February 4, 2014 Super User Posted February 4, 2014 Try bitters best, see if they have the color in their take of the baits. If nothin else, see of one of the guys on here that pour plastics can make u one or if its feasible. 1 Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted February 4, 2014 Super User Posted February 4, 2014 Did you call them up and ask them? Are they really discontinued or are they just out. I can feel your pain though, about discontinued baits. My supply of Berkley Powerbait Pulse worms is dwindling. They were discontinued several years ago, so when I'm out, there ain't no more. Same deal with the Powerbait 8" lizard. I thought it was a lot better bait than the 6" one, but it is discontinued. I called Berkley to ask about that one and they said that there were no plans to manufacture that bait any more because it didn't meet sales expectations. They do the same thing as far as colors go also. I like the Powerbait creature bait, buy now it is only available in 8 "most popular" colors. The green pumpkin with large copper flakes isn't available any more. My advice is that if you find a soft plastic that you like and get good results from, buy as many bags as you can asap. There is no telling when or why some baits get discontinued and some don't. I think there is a rule that if I like a bait, it is going to get discontinued within a couple of seasons. Sometimes they don't get discontinued, and I think the companies are doing that just to mess with me. But I'm not paranoid. Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Find a custom bait maker that will make exactly what you want. Color, softness, sink rate etc. Dont think there are any on here that advertise anymore. Quote

Let me preface by saying I am a die hard powerbait guy- 90% what I use plastics wise...but the pulse and bungee worm were two things I was happy to see go lol....to each his own though, and sorry they stopped making them for you. Super User Sam Posted February 5, 2014 Super User Posted February 5, 2014 Follow the money. If a color sells then the companies will continue making it and the retailers will continue to sell it. Each brand and type of bait gets "X" number of feet in a retail store. So only those baits and colors that turn over fast and produce profits will be retained. As for Powerpro, I loved their 7-inch Shaky Head worms. They are no longer being produced. Got my last ones off e-bay. Just follow the money. Quote
Stlbob Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Just like they ' FIXED ' ...Wiggle Warts...got lucky in a trade, ended up with a tray full. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted February 5, 2014 Super User Posted February 5, 2014 If it was discontinued it was due to it not selling well but as others said, maybe it is just out of stock right now. I know how it is, Xcalibur kills me, they make some really awesome jerkbaits, the Xt3 Twitch and the Xs4 Jimmy, both really good baits, and they sold well but discontinued and then they bring out the EEratic shad, Edwin Evers goes to Megabass and they are being discontinued. I will offer you a glimmer of hope, you can check ebay but most of the sellers know when something is discontinued and you'll end up paying through the nose. Or , you can contact the manufacturer or the store and look for old stock to buy up, my favorite wake bait is the Manns Waker elite, it is a big body bait that no matter how fast you reel it, it only dives to 3" and it is a killer, the rootbeer chartreuse color is the best. Anyway, those are discontinued but I sent an email to Manns when I only had 2 left and sure enough they had old stock and I was able to get my best color along with others, so I loaded up, so before you get bummed out check for old stock, a lot of places will take a non selling or discontinued product out of the inventory system and put the items in a bargain bin and a simple email or phone call is often all it takes, these places will gladly sell old stock if it is on hand. Alpha Male Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 That sucks dude. Same thing happens to me all the time. In my wifes family its become known as an olsonism. Quote
Primus Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 I miss the Xcalibur wake crank, glad I bought a couple of back-ups. Quote
Tim Kelly Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 They spend so much time coming out with something new, so the customers can buy something new for each season. There's only so much shelf space, so they phase out the older or less big selling stuff. Berkley are particularly good/bad at this. Their havoc range is just another way of creating something new and expanding their power bait range. While they're getting the big promotion the shelf space they take up will mean some power bait lines being dropped. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted February 5, 2014 Super User Posted February 5, 2014 From my hottest crankbaits to my hottest senko, stik o worm colors why do they sell out to the point they end up being discontinued? I tried the Amber flake stik o worms from BPS and they are the hottest color in my area. I no longer see this color and flake combination being offered. Even the senko brand no longer offers this hot color. Why? Because very few things are worth making on a production scale for very specific regional usage. In most cases, the fact that it is sold out in your area is inconclusive. Those baits could have been there for five years and just now gotten to the point they got rid of them. More often than not, it's a situation that they aren't that hot for everyone. In terms of when they discontinue a good selling item, it is usually locally that it sells well. There are a lot of instances in which manufacturers make a bait that sells extremely well in a specific area, but outside of that area it doesn't sell at all. I can recall a half dozen baits that were released at a national level that had a total of 2% of sales from outside a specific area. When that happens, it isn't worth it to the manufacturer to have that bait taking up space in their production when it is such a low call. Soft plastics are extremely subject to this. If they don't sell well at a national level, they don't continue to make them in most cases. Quote

Mainebass1984 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I hate it when they discontinue a lure that is one of my favorites. Fleck probuzz3 buzzbaits. Best buzzbaits ever made in my opinion. Yo-zuri suspending pins minnow Now the problem is I still have several of these. Should I use them or retire them ? Quote
hawghunters Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Try doc irv custom baits....if bitters doesn't have it X2 on doc irv. The guy is very easy to work with. Google his name and you'll find his website. You can send him your worm and he'll match it. He's a great choice with guys wanting custom plastics. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted February 6, 2014 Super User Posted February 6, 2014 All about the $$$. Like others have said, a lot of places will only carry what is hot right now, and getting all the media hype. Quote
Grantman83 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Sometimes it is bittersweet. As someone mentioned, I love the EEratic shad from xcalibur but as soon as Edwin went to Megabass I kept an eye out at my local store. Sure enough, the went on clearance so I bought a bunch. Hopefully they will last lol Quote
