I am going to fort desoto at the end of April for vacation and was wondering if there is any bass fishing close by? Just wanted to know if it was worth bringing a rod?

Ft desoto is  great for salt, not so much for fresh.

Head across the skyway to the Braden river....there is also a thread on here and when I get a chance I will dig it up but it has a few spots around st Pete for bass. Best bet is fish salt, desoto has some nice secluded areas you can wade. Central have park/bridge is a good spot too if you have no boat.

Salt isn't too difficult you can get shrimp and a circle hook, or a grass spoon, some sort of topwater or jerk bait. Pick up a mirrolure or two at Walmart.

If you make it over to 4th street and 22nd that pond is in a nice park with reasturants in walking distance in a nice area of old st pete. Shemps is there too if you like a variety of beer, may want check out Harvey's 4th st grill for a grouper Ruben, 4th street shrimp co. Or in the beach area Dockside Dave's for the biggest fried grouper sandwich.

All the above (other post) listed spots are in pretty decent areas, stay away from anything south of central ave. gets rough down there.

White flukes, chartruese spinner baits and silver rattle traps work well in salt water.
