Super User Redlinerobert Posted February 2, 2014 Super User Posted February 2, 2014 Totally useless as a truck, but I think it looks cool. I'd ditch the spike lugs on the wheels though. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-Silverado-3500-2WD-Crew-Cab-NO-RESERVE-FULL-CUSTOM-DUALLY-DURAMAX-DIESEL-ALLISON-TRANS-LOW-/131101018294?forcerrptr=true&hash=item1e863ac8b6&item=131101018294&pt=US_Cars_Trucks Quote

I love the look of the Chevy and GMC trucks, but I can't get over the mechanical and electrical issues to actually go out and buy one. I've been driving Chevy and Ford trucks as work vehicles for many years and the Chevy's have had more issues then I care to deal with. I still think it's the best looking truck on the market. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted February 2, 2014 Author Super User Posted February 2, 2014 I agree with everything except the issues part? I've always have a Chevy truck as a 2nd vehicle, since the mid 90's. Some half ton, some 3/4 ton. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've never had one single mechanical or electrical issue with any of my vehicles. All have been bought new and all have been serviced as required. I do drive my trucks. Average 25,000 miles a year. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted February 2, 2014 Super User Posted February 2, 2014 You've been lucky or I've been unlucky. All the Chevys are 3500 series vans and trucks. They've had issues with the lights. Headlights and tail lights. Front brakes having to be completely replaced because of warped rotors. Oil burning, cracked distributors and bad starters. Not just mine. These are fleet vehicles. They get used and abused. The Fords tend to be better mechanically but I can't stand the interior layout. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted February 2, 2014 Super User Posted February 2, 2014 The Chevy 5500s and 6500s we used to drive were terrible. They were in the shop every month at least once. Either fuel system, or electrical. One had the turbo burn out in it twice over a six month period. Now the F550s we had worked great. I can't remember any problems with them. To my knowledge the two Chevy's that company owns are still having problems , and its been 2 years since I left there. As or regular people trucks. I like the exterior of the Chevy's. However I like the interior of the fords better. Its more basic and simple. The exterior of my F150 is starting to grow on me though. I like the offset they put on the doors where the windows are. Dodges are the best looking trucks...... The dually is cool I suppose it doesn't do much for me other then the fact its diesel. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted February 2, 2014 Author Super User Posted February 2, 2014 I've never been a fan of Dodge trucks. Just can't get into how they look. I've tried. Can't do it. 2 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted February 2, 2014 Super User Posted February 2, 2014 I've owned 3 Dodge pickups. Would never buy another one. I'm gonna drive my Tundra until disintegrates or I win the lottery OR Toyota decides to make a 3/4 ton pickup with a crew cab and a long bed. Whichever comes first. 1 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 2, 2014 Super User Posted February 2, 2014 I won't debate who makes the better trucks, but owning many trucks over a 35 year span, problems arise when trucks are abused. An owner operator of a truck for commercial purposes usually will have less problems because they take care of them, an employed driver doesn't always put the needed care into. I know a bunch of drivers are going jump up and say they take care of them like they own them. I've had dozens of drivers over the years, anyone care to see the repair bills.......lol. All trucks are going to run into the nickle and dime stuff, but if they are making a buck for ya it's just part of the overhead. I like pickups and they are nice for what they are designed for but never owned one, too small a payload for me. I had both med duty gas trucks with a GVW about 30,000# and heavy duty diesel tractors with 6 axle dump trailers. There is no best truck, it's the right truck for the job. I wouldn't use a Kenworth or Peterbuilt to haul scrap and I wouldn't use one of my Macks for long haul. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted February 2, 2014 Super User Posted February 2, 2014 Mine was before the whole lowprofile huge rim craze, mine wore 17 inch, Weld Racing Rims 2 Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted February 2, 2014 Super User Posted February 2, 2014 I will still chose my F150 Ecoboost.... Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted February 2, 2014 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted February 2, 2014 I have owned a fleet (at least 5 at a time) of trucks since 1997 and will say that Ford trucks are by far the most durable overall. Most of mine being deisel 250's or larger. There have been some problems with diesel engines and there are aftermarket fixes for those but the interiors and suspensions are far superior. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted February 2, 2014 Super User Posted February 2, 2014 I'll have another dually, mine was a diesel, the way mine was lowered still hauled horses and cattle fine. Miner was a simple suspension drop. Quote

Back when I was young and dumb I had a 3/4 ton with the huge lift and 37" tires with Weld Racing wheels. Those wheels were the best! Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted February 2, 2014 Super User Posted February 2, 2014 Tundra for the win!!!!! Seriously, I have owned a little of them all. Dodge dually, Ford f-250, Chevy 1500, k-5 blazer, Jeep Grand Cherokee and am now on my second Tundra(had to upgrade, not because of problems but because of size and engine) and wouldn't own a different truck! Super User flyfisher Posted February 3, 2014 Super User Posted February 3, 2014 Those larger rims must ride like crap...I am not a pick up fan but i do like the Rams. I'll stick to my wranglers for now unless i happen to find some extra money and buy a boat it can't tow Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted February 4, 2014 Super User Posted February 4, 2014 Growing up my family alway had Chevy's. The last GM product I had was an 88 Pontiac. The mechanical problems and the attitude of the dealerships turned me off. If I ever get another truck it will be a Ford or Toyota. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted February 4, 2014 Author Super User Posted February 4, 2014 ^ My first car was a brand spanking new 1986 Pontiac Trans Am. Needed to have the motor replaced after a few miles. Quote
