The good thing is, I only bought one. And once I take it out a few times and fish it, I will be able to evaluate it myself.

I wanted to treat myself to a top of the line bottom contact rod, because I spend more time pitching jigs than anything else.

If I do find that it is no greater than a the Endurance 714, that I fish jigs with now, then all I lost is 40 bucks. 714 is now 200... No humongous loss. ...... But I seriously doubt I will find a lot of fault with that rod. I was going to add another 7 foot jig rod to the deck anyway.

And the core reel.... Wow... I mean I have fished Lews reels since their comeback and I am thoroughly impressed,... But it was the Core and I paid a ham sandwhich to get it....so I'm pretty stoked. Not a turn coat or anything, but I'm not stupid either... I know top shelf gear when I see it.

I hope you enjoy it. That reel is flat out awesome, you will love it. The rod is good too, well balanced and good for bottom contact. I am not saying it is bad  (the dobyn's bandwagon is tough to deal with) I'm was just saying it is a lot like the Powell line with a higher tag. It is still a top of the line rod.

That's great, we all should spent a little on something we want every now and then, I hope you enjoy the set up for a long time.

You could have stopped here and not let this tarnish your beginning here with your 13 active posts.  Newbies with foul opinions are never appreciated.  No one is judging your gear and no one else wants your opinion of how theirs is inferior in "your" mind.

Lol, If you could stop the dobyn's bandwagon for a second and get off your soap box and maybe read the post, nothing was said about inferior gear and nothing was ever said about any fishing gear I use but your such a Pro that a newbie like me shouldn't dare tell you that. How old are you any way kid?

More or less its what you implied. If it wasn't, you'd made no mention of it. And by new...I meant to this site. Best of luck making friends after this kind of a start.

I'm 31 and taken. Sorry I'm not available to you.

Teal, are you coming to the Dobyns bandwagon party?  We're having bonfires made of Powell Rods and Senkos for snacks.

No! Certainly not burning my Powell's. They are terrific rods! I love em! But if Dobyns DX rods are good I might get a few more. Ill still buy Powell's. I just wasn't impressed with the new TiMax rods.

I never even seen a Powell rod, wish I could test them out where I am.  It's hard to find a local shop where I live to even handle a Dobyns rod.

Like you though, I treated myself last year by getting "high end" bottom contact rods and boy am I happy.  The difference is quite noticeable!

I think this whole bandwagon thing is ridiculous. If someone hears a ton of good reviews about a brand, of course they are going to try it. It's called having a good product and word-of-mouth marketing.

That guy is giving someone crap about hopping on the Dobyns bandwagon, yet he is all Powell this and Powell that. Sounds like someone is on the "Powell bandwagon" according to his perspective on bandwagons.

No, It was never implied at all but you in your fit of I'm better than you, you sure took it that way. Also just because you have posted on some forum a lot more than some one else does not make you the elite guy you are sounding like you think you are but I know, you catch bigger fish, your boat is faster, your girl is better looking and your dad can beat up my dad...blah, blah, blah. You are still a little young so maybe a little more growing up but I would have expected more from a 31 year old.

Teal, sorry your thread got out of hand, I sure did not mean it that way but I guess the elite took it that way. Enjoy your new fishing gear.

Congratulations on the purchase. I'm about to pull the trigger on a Daiwa PX-R so I can relate to your excitement. I hope the joy meets your expectations.

Congrats on a great combo.  I'm sure you will enjoy the heck out of it.

For you guys worried about the wife getting to the package before you.....have it shipped to your workplace.  Wife will eventually see that there are now 30 rods where there use to be 15, but you only get hollered at once.  :teeth:

I want to hear Teals review of his new Core vs his Lews

I plan on writing a reveiw on them including a comparison of the two reels and how they compare on a practical level.

That's a mean little reel! A guy that lives near me has one and I was super impressed. He also has the PX68 and Alphas 105 and man oh man, those reels are so well built. They are light as a feather and I know from first hand that one can cast a weightless trick worm from the back door clear to the back alley with little effort. ( said test was with a 2 power g Loomis rod )

Teal, I've got 2 of the Purple Alphas 103L and an ito 103-Ai.  These are fantastic reels.  The ito disappears in your hand.  Only wish I could afford the others.  :sad78:

nice pick up teal. Just an honest question here I have never used a dobyns rod, what makes them so much more liked than other brands. Is it superior graphite, better balance, better cork, eyes? none of the places around me carry them, so I cant go and play with one either. Hope I didnt jack your thread, just curious about the momentum this company has gained recently...
