Garret88 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Okay this is probably going to get a lot of biased opinions so this is really geared towards anyone who has used both... I'm looking for a new baitcaster for either topwater, shallow crankbaits, or jerkbaits, maybe even some light jigging/t-rigging (but mostly the first 3). My new reel will either be a Revo Premier or Chronarch CI4+. All my baitcasters are some sort of Revo from the S up to the STX and Winch. However, the Shimano Chronarch CI4+ looks very tempting to me. I have not had ANY bad experiences (knock on wood) with my Revos so I'm hesitant to buy another brand. I do love the Revo drag system. Anyway, does anyone have any experience with both reels that could give a little information on both the Chronarch CI4+ and the Revo Premier, and which may or may not be better for the applications I listed above? Thanks! Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted February 1, 2014 Super User Posted February 1, 2014 I just recently bought 2 CI4's. Really like them a lot so far. However, I haven't fished them yet, so can't give an honest appraisal. I have Revo STX's and they are great reels, although, mine are gen. 2 models. So this probably doesn't help at all...lol. Super User Tywithay Posted February 1, 2014 Super User Posted February 1, 2014 I prefer the CI4+ over the Revo Premier, personally. They're both equally smooth, but I think the CI4+ palms a little nicer and casts better. It can especially cast lighter weights better. I think a lot of it is due to the SVS Infinity casting system, it's one of the best I've come across thus far, only rivaled by the Mag3d and DC. The IVCB on the new Premier just isn't up to the same standards for me. I didn't care for it on the MGX and it's no better on the Premier. The Gen2 Premier was a better reel than the Gen3, in my opinion; the CI4+ is a better reel than both of those. The tolerances of the CI4+ feel tighter than the Premier as well, probably has something to do with being made in Japan. 1 Quote

I have the STX and from what I've seen/read, I dont see much difference in the Premier aside from the carbon handle which helps it be lighter than the STX. Quote

IVCB VS Dual braking, carbon fiber handle, not much else really Quote
Garret88 Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 I definitely think I'm going to go the the CI4+ over the premier. I do like my current Revos, but I feel like I'm selling myself short by not trying other reel brands. Plus, the CI4+ had to have gotten best freshwater reel at iCast2013 for a reason. Ill be getting the 6.2:1 for my topwater, jerkbait, squarebill rod! Quote
