now here is a little info from someone who knows..ME..FMJ out of an AR style gun..which i dont own,im more into unusual rifles..Austrian AUG..Swiss 556.

These 55grn rounds traveling over 3,000 fps become unstable almost the instant they come in contact with soft tissue..If they hit a bone it is like a small explosion going off.Shards everywhere..OUR military has been using this round for a long time..They do not over-penetrate like they are supposed to..go to a site BoxOTruth and they show how far they penetrate..nothing like you would expect.

There is really NO recoil to speak of making it very easy to stay on target,if ever fired in a home, you will lose your hearing.Very LOUD.

Most time i have a Sig in my hand if i hear something out of place..BUT i have a clip in the Aug in the bedroom and a clip in the Sig in my room,,(man cave)..unlike a lot of fellow Ebw guys i dont have a lot of bells and whistles on mine..Iron sights with a flashlight..

As a veteran and a infantryman I can tell you that they do NOT fragment when incontact with soft tissue.

No i didnt say that. I said  ' unstable '.. i am a vet also ex army mos 11bravo...they tumble ..only at greater distance do they just punch a clean hole..up to 100 yards they will tumble and sometimes break apart at the crimp...when they hit bone most times it creates secondary wounds from bone shards.I dont really want to get more graphic than that..

I have been there done that,in person. If this round didnt work we wouldnt still have it as our main battle round, and the are dozens of other country's that use it as well.

dont want to really have this conversation here.My point in starting this thread was really to show other pro gun people ( hunters, folks with wood guns ) we are all on the same side..And to not let the anti gun crowd drive a wedge between to factions of pro-gun groups.

NO it says 'GUN' not hunting.Guns can do other things.AND the conversation i wont have is graphic details on how well the 223/5.56 works as an effective weapon in war...I want to have a discussion about types of weapons not the damage they cause.None of my discussion has been political i have made sure of that.

Truth be know i hate politics and politicians they only seek to further their own agenda regardless of which side of the aisle they are from.

I love guns, shooting guns, collecting guns and training with them until i am as good as i can humanly be.SO one day God forbid i have to use one, no one..NO ONE !!!..but the bad guy will be in danger.

Must have missed a post that was deleted lol.

I to enjoy guns of all types I wish I could shoot more but being in NY greatly hinders that as ammo is next to impossible to find for the guns i have and like to shoot. Tons of .223/5.56 ammo and I found a place that has bricks of my 17 for 140 a brick of 500 I'm just shy the 140 bucks lol. I shoot a .243 99% the time and I'm running low on ammo and he last place I looked had all deer rounds other then nosler varmintgedon but at 40 a box of 20 and probably needing to rezero ill pass.

ammo is pretty good here.we have a cabelas which does a very nice job of keeping it in stock.. the almost 10% tax rate where they are located at, now that is rough...

How familier are you guys with older guns? Such as an old 22 cal. J.O.Higgins. Known as the boys gun. I read where this was used "back in the day" when the boy scouts actually practiced marksmanship. This thing looks like a toy. It shoots great. I found out later I should not have been shooting it as it is very old and not designed for modern ammo. The rifling is still good. It has a few battle scars on the stock. I bet it could tell some real stories. It sounds like I should be greatful I can drive down to the gun shop and pick up ammo at a reasonable price. 22cal are 4.67....7.62x39 are 5.97

Hey clayton...did you get one of those letters asking to register your guns ? I read something about that happening in NY.

I don't own a single semi auto firearm of any kind all mine are single shots or bolt guns. Even if I owned one of the said "evil" guns I would never register it it would have been lost in a boating accident.

What's gonna really hurt us is now having to pay for a background check every time we want to buy ammo and being limited to only 3 boxs a month or something stupid. Last i heard its gonna be between $25-50 for the check single every time.

the problem with the anti- gunners is the same issue with the pro-gunners.......... there are so many crazies on both sides that is makes the normal/sensible people look bad.

I know ccw holders that I am scared they are allowed to carry.... not because they are badasses, its because they are idiots who have watched a few john wayne movies

I am progun btw.

Not even gonna get started its impossible not to go political when it comes to talking about whats going on with this state. I will say I seen a representative wants to put something on the ballet about splitting NYC and upstate into two diffrent states which would be awesome.

Indeed....need to relocate to "free America" or what's left of it!

i like the fact that firearm factory's are rolling up the side walk when a state becomes to anti gun, they move where they are appreciated..

i dont like that fact people lose jobs...It would be one thing if Pro Gun folks were demanding that laws be passed everyone HAS to own a gun..

Well...Some states are better than others. Texas, Arizona, Tennessee, Indiana come to mind. Florida is up there too. Basically any state that is not run by idiots. Although if the government keeps running on the same track the states will be handcuffed anyway. These next 3 years are going to be tough.

Gun/ammo manufacturers are the biggest fans and love the controversy the pro gun or anti gun crowd elicits as it inevitably spikes their sales....

acceptance is the first step...... I am too, but still in trying to be in denial for the most part

Colion Noir's "wish a motherF@#$%R would" video sums up the folks I am talking about, which I doubt you are apart of THAT group.

My ccw qualification course recently put me in the same boat as you Needham. If you put forth the time, (8hrs) and money you passed, I'll leave it at that.

My .338 Lapua Magnum looks pretty d**n scary. My buddies .50 Barrett looks down right terrifying. They make my AK47 with the hundred round drum look like a friendly little thing.

Plus as much money as the AR platform is generating for the gun companies. As well as the accessory companies. Those rifles aren't going anywhere. Big Business won't allow it. Guns in general ain't going anywhere. The American people won't allow it. In the rare event some goofy politician does make it happen. I know my good ol state of Alabama with our sister state Mississippi will secede from the Union again. Thusly not impacting me.

Not that it would impact me anyway. I shoot sniper rifles. Why pray and spray when you can drop em from a mile away.
