Banned-99884 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Cant decide really looking at the tatulas, some say there really bulky. Also, Lews has a good reputation, but everyone uses them. the new cuarado looks sleek and well designed or is it just a silver g series? Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted January 31, 2014 Super User Posted January 31, 2014 Tatulas have been really well received and I think it's probably more "tackle snobs" or fans of other manufacturers that call them really bulky. This is coming from a borderline tackle snob and Shimano fan for what it's worth. Anyhow, I have reels that I enjoy fishing from Lews, Daiwa, Abu, and Shimano, but in my experience the quality and durability is just better with Shimano. The new Curado is nowhere near a "silver G series"... have you seen the pics and the specs? They're an upgrade from the E series this time around. In order for you to make the right decision for you, you're probably going to have to check all 3 out in person to see which you like best. 2 Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted January 31, 2014 Super User Posted January 31, 2014 None The Tatula is going to be the size of the new Curado because I don't think they are making a 50 yet? And the breaks on the MG are magnetic only. 50E Quote
SenkoGuru Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I was a pretty big fan of Shimano and loved the curado E, then one day while at a store I bought a Lew's Team Pro and just went stupid. I sold all of my Shimano curado E's and bought Lew's and while I do really enjoy the Lew's and I am happy with them, they are not a Shimano Curado E. I find myself missing my Shimano Reels. My wife bought me a Daiwa Tatula Type R for Christmas and I would say it is a very nice baitcaster too, I really like it also. No on has been able to hold and use the new Shimano curado's yet but in truth you can't go wrong with any of those reel's they are all nice. If it was me knowing everything I know now and having had the other reels though, I would wait and get the new Shimano Curado. They have a good Rep for a reason, most of there reels are built solid. Also I would not go with the Lew's MG because of the mag breaks only, if you are going to get a Lew's atleast go with the Reg Lew's Tournament reels, it has dual breaking. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 yeah, I have been looking at the new Tatula Type R's for a little and they look nice! Both, I have a 50e, 200e5, and 200e7 all with upgraded drags and bearings so, I don't know if it is worth it starting over. Plus, I love my Curado E's!! Quote
ColdSVT Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I would look at the lews tourny pro and the curado I. Or even a Gen 2 revo STX With the possibility of the chronarch es getting cheapnsoob i would look there as well Quote
Banned-99884 Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 2nd gen revo stx broke on my cousin. Waiting for the chronarch 200e to go on sale or getting the new curado Quote
bootytrain Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I got my tatula type r 2 days ago, its not as heavy and bulky IMO as people say. It casts pretty far, I was able to get the brake dial down to 4. If the new Curado is anything like my Metanium(and it looks like it will be) then it will outcast the type r for sure. No experience with Lews but I'm sure they fish similar to my Revo IB. Quote
dam0007 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Tatula isnt that bulky. Seems well constructed and should last. Just picked up 2 of em and havent fished them yet... On that note I am a Shimano guy Chronarch E and Curado G series are both solid reels. Quote
Martin B Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I haven't fished the other two reels, but I now own two Tatulas (6.3 and 7.3). I've been very impressed with their smoothness and how far I can cast with them. I was looking at the Type R version, but after reading Tackle Tours review of it, I will just stick with the standard Tatula. I plan on picking up another one the 5.4 for cranking. Quote

They balance better with longer rods and dont fit nicely on a 66 rod if you want to use it for jerkbaits or small cranks. I love them for casting spinnerbaits, topwater stick baits, and anything I would do on a mh rod. In the same price range I could get a lighter reel for jerkbaits and such. I am just used to light reels. Performance wise these reels are tanks, first bass on mine was 6lb+ and the drag worked flawlessy Quote
Basswhippa Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Get yourself a new Curado I. It is a way better reel than the others and leaves them in the dust. Taking a distant second would be a Tatula. The Revo with the different badge comes in third. Quote

The Revo with the different badge comes in third. Not to be confrontational but how can you make this statement when the curado hasn't even been released yet. As much as you may disregard the mg, it has been out for awhile and has a good reputation. The tatula is also newer and doesn't have a track record beyond a few months. I'm not trying to stir the pot, just heed alittle caution considering people are enthusiastically suggesting a reel that nobody has used yet lol Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I would wait on the curado.. The tatula isn't all that big, but it is kinda clumsy in the hand, for lack of better words. The curado could turn out to be a curado G that has x-ship and svs.. There is no way to no yet, but I think shimano will do it right this time around because they will lose a lot of market share if this curado I is subpar. Quote
