Banned-99884 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I have switched my rods to all Dobyns Champion, I would like to switch all my reels to one brand. I have 1 Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier, 1 Revo Sx and a Lews bb1. I would like to switch to either lews, shimano or quantum. Whats your guys input? My max on a reel is around 200$ give or take some. Thanks, - The Pig Slayer Quote
Grantman83 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Most guys will say shimano but I would choose lews honestly. You already have a bb1and they have a rep for being outstanding. Furthermore, you can choose a reel based on your braking preference as they have choices in magnetic, dual or strictly centrifugal braking Quote
mjseverson24 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Either Lews or Quantum, Shimano has great reels, but they are not in my opinion the best bang for your buck. Personally I am switching most of my reels to daiwa and quantum. I like the tatula and t3 platforms for daiwa and the kinetic, energy, and catalyst for quantum. The lews reels are great value as well the bb1, tournament mg and the superduty are great buys. Mitch Quote
livetofish28 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I like Lew's a lot and you could get the tournament pro for around that or an mg which is an excellent workhorse reel I also like the super duty you can cover pretty much every technique with a reel in their line up Tight lines Andrew Quote
Rangerphil Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Having used all three mentioned I would say lews then shimano. I was an all quantum guy and they just did not hold up like I thought they should! Quote
dam0007 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Chronarch E series across the board In the $200 price range. Or curado G series once the stores start putting them on clearence Quote
Banned-99884 Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 thanks guy, it seems like everyone i know has a lews and a chronarch. looking at the tatula's... Anyone have any experience with them? And are they big as people say they are? Quote
Grantman83 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 It depends on how you palm the reel. I keep my pointer finger wrapped around the front left of the reel and this is exactly where the tatula is wider than other reels especially with it's jutting brake dial. For me the difference was immediately noticeable so I got rod of it. The lews reels for me were ergonomically perfect. If you keep your fingers below the reel, you probably won't notice. Quote
Super User Teal Posted January 31, 2014 Super User Posted January 31, 2014 I try not to get into the brand discussion anymore, but ill say this... I own a dozen Lews reels. Namely the tournament pro and now I have 3 Lews team pros. I like them. But I can say this Shimano Chronarch and curdos are dang good reels and I would own one in a min. The shimano reels have also stood the test of time... Lews is still a couple years in the making. I feel good about them but who knows.... Just stuff to ask your self Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Actually, the three brands you have are all built on the same platform with only model features to seperate them. I don't think there's one brand that stands out above the others across the board. Each has a model or two that shines in certain applications. If you're looking for a change Shiamno, Daiwa and maybe Quantum are your main choices. Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted January 31, 2014 Super User Posted January 31, 2014 lews baby. i have a shiamno and a abu garcia . honestly l love them all but if were to recommend a reel to some one id go with the lews.. Quote
Arv Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 It's gonna be all personal preference. Personally, I like lews on my dobyns, but again, that's just me Quote
fishguy613 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Right now im putting lews, shimano and pfluegers on my dobyns lineup all nice reels Quote
Avaitor63 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I like my Ardent Edge Pro it has something new, Drag Tracking Technology. When casting the line guide tracks the line going out,so you have less drag and friction. You can cast much further to cover more real estate. Get those Lunkers. Greg Quote
Alpha Male Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I notice that everyone has a preference...I say try them all. I have Quantum, shimano, Daiwa, Abu garcia, and even a phlueger. I can say now that I have one I will never buy phlueger again, but I am looking at getting a Lews BB-1. But I say the same for rods...Though I do tend to favor St croix. I still have a couple loomis rods, and a Daiwa, Gander mtn, and a TFO rod. I really like to not have everything be the same. If you want them to be the same then find a brand that has the specs you want and the looks you like. Good luck...your gonna need it. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted January 31, 2014 Super User Posted January 31, 2014 My input is you look real hard at the Lews Tournament Pro, for around $150 shipped on ebay, it's already established as a fantastic reel. Buy one try it out and if you like it buy an army of them to compliment your rods. Quote
