Naterwedge Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 I fished a club tourney with someone I had never fished with before. When we would get to a new spot before he would make a cast he would look up to the sky and yell "caw cacaw caw" rather loudly and with a slight lisp. He said he was calling in the bass. It didn't work. He did this at every spot. Other fisherman looked over in wonder. Lmao! I do something similar, I use the reverse psychology like I do with my 3yr old. I'll be working a Carolina rig and quietly saying "You don't want this lizard, it's just too delicious.." 1 Quote
boostr Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I always get a good laugh watching people use spinning reels "backwards" Just like in the picture Lol, my wife was guilty of this one time... one time, and do I miss her. Quote
Fish Murderer 71 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 My fishing partner does this little hop thing whenever he casts, I'm just waiting for him to hop out the boat one day. I've tried to time a trolling motor burst to help him. No effect yet... 5 Quote

Just be sure he hasn't borrowed one of your rods. 2 Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I find guys who musky fish pretty peculiar. They can fish all day and if they just SEE a fish they think it was a good day! Imagine fishing hour after hour casting 8+ ounce lures without seeing a thing only to have on that next cast your lure is shadowed by this large menacing figure stalking your bait closely as you retrieve it back to the boat. This nefarious creature doesn't give a d**n that you are standing almost on top of him as he knows he is King of the Lake. He will follow your lure around and around with what looks like the intention to kill only to simply slink away into the depth leaving your heart racing and knees shaking. So, yes, seeing a fish could be a good day. 3 Quote
coryn h. fishowl Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 It wasn't really a habit because this person hadn't fished before but a buddy that went fishing with me rigged his pole up with a Rapala Husky Jerk and then put a little piece of worm on a couple of the hooks and and casted right next to shore and just waited. I could not stop laughing. When i told him you don't have to bait the hooks and that you usually should keep retrieving the lure he was shocked. BEST EVER!!! that's hilarious Quote
coryn h. fishowl Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 It's only perverted if you use your tongue. "I am not a fish licker." Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I spit twice into the water after every fish. Because the river god likes it. Quote
0119 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 My fishin' buddy strategically waits for the very moment a slow bite has me in a daze and yells "pow" as loud as only a hawg calling country boy can do. One day I'm going to show him and have a heart attack. 1 Quote
bartdude186 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 took 3 of my friends fishing that had not fished much before, and the ones that had were hook and bobber types. told them they could pick anything out of my tackle box to use and i loaned them all rods. after a while i turned around and all 3 of them were standing behind me with their rods propped up and lines in the water. I knew there was not a single thing in my tackle box that should be fished that way so i asked what the were using, and one replies "A little worm thingy" and they reel in and i see 3 crappie jigs with grubs on them, 5 INCH GRUBS! keeping a straight face i told them that was one of my favorites and let them fish like that for 30 more mins before showing them how to fish hahaha. Super User Teal Posted February 4, 2014 Super User Posted February 4, 2014 I have a buddy who does not fish tournaments, although he possesses the knowledge and instincts to do so. My thing with him. HE IS SO DARN SECRETIVE!! He never takes anyone to his really productive spots He keeps his lures down low in between casts if another boat is within eyesight. He rarely even tells me ( his best buddy) what his pattern is, or what he is using. We do a lot of fishing together, and go on shopping trips to bass pro together. We talk fishing together and will help each other when we are planning on fishing together or a after a trip.... But other than that he is pretty tight lipped. It just kills me, I would expct it out of a out of town pro, but my best pal... . Crazy. Quote
KritterGitter Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Whenever my buddy ties a lure on he makes sure he "sweetens" it with a lil copenhagen flavoring. I think he just dosent want me to ever ask to borrow a lure haha 1 Quote

Reminds me of when I was a kid, my Brother would always try something like that if I was zoning out. LOL! You need to teach that Ol' Boy a lesson! Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted February 7, 2014 Super User Posted February 7, 2014 Last spring, a buddy and I were fishing around a rocky island. There was a couple of fishermen nearby. Every time one of them made a cast he'd utter a weird grunt, a kind of huhhhh. It got to where we had to move because we laughed every time he did it. He sounded like a cat trying to cough up a hairball. Quote
Jd_Phillips_Fishin Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Kissing fish before releasing them. my dad does the same, exspecially if it has been a while since he caught one Quote

papajoe222 Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 I lost a friend a couple of years ago that, upon hooking into a big fish, would stomp his feet on the floor of the boat like a little kid. Always brought a smile to my face. Man I miss him. 1 Quote
spartyon8 Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 When I fish with my uncle, I sit in the back and face away from him. When he lands one, he takes it off, gives the usual smirk and casts again. The problem, he keeps his fish in the other hand and then lobs it toward my end of the boat. EVERY TIME!!!!! 1 Quote
The Rooster Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 My brother and I both do this one. We will make the first cast of the day and then burn it back in as fast as possible hoping NOT to catch anything with it. Bad luck if you hook one one the first cast. Means the rest of the day will suck. Quote
AQUA VELVA Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 A guy on my lake said he quit using spinner baits because they were more trouble than they were worth. When I asked what the problem was, he said the snap always ended up tangled in the blades. Quote

RB 77 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 A good buddy of mine used to strip line off his reel after EVRY cast. No matter if he backlashed or not. No matter what bait he was fishing. It was guaranteed very cast, every time. After constant badgering by from me to break that bad habit and several lost fish in the process he has finally broke that habit. Now if I can get him to start casting with two hands instead of the one handed "flick" (which I sometimes use for up close applications when appropriate) he'll be in good shape. Don't even get me started on trying to teach him the importance of learning how to flip n' ptich in certain situation when called for he will be styling! Quote
