Koppers Live target Bluegill squarebill and KVD 2.5

I got a Koppers Live Target Bluegill over the weekend but haven't gotten a chance to throw it yet. How do you like them?

I exclusivly throw the KVD 1.5 nice cheap price and they are extremely effective catching big fish. If I go by that then this Koppers bluegill which cost $13 should catch me a bunch of double digit bass lol

Lucky Craft has a few that I like but I think my favorite Square Bill is the Lucky Craft SKT MR in MS American Shad color.

That bait is absolutely ridiculous.

I have a couple of pictures of it on my Instagram. One picture you can see it about as deep in a Bass's mouth as you

can get before it is in the stomach. Fish just choke that thing.

My Instagram is www.Instagram.com/JTBagwell if you don't already have it.

I like Timber Tigers.  I have lots of them in the DC4, DC5 & DC8 sizes.   I use the DC8 size most of the time.

I really like the Koppers Livetarget stuff, I got mine in a sale, so not $13, lol. Mine is a matte finish Bluegill, in the next size up from the smallest, has a great look and presentation; also quality components and casts very far. Seems to work its best for me around the outside of grassy areas or in between lilly pads, just be careful it can get snagged. Haven't caught any double digits on it, but have gotten a few very nice sized pigs.

I really like the Xcalibur XCS series, they seem to be pretty solid all around. Also the Rapala DT Fat 3's are good as well.

I don't have a favorite but I want to try spro fat John, storm arashi, and r2s biggie smalls creepin

I like a few different baits; Spro Fat John, KVD 1.5, RC 1.5, RC2, and Bandits. I'd like to try the Biggie baits just haven't gotten around to it. Absolutely change the hooks on the KVD baits though. The RC2 as well.

There are lots of good sqaurebills out right now. I really like the KVD and Bandit lures for their combination of performance and price. I think my all time favorite is the Fat John. I also like the new Little Fat John's.

I've caught more fish on this particular crank than any other single crank I've ever owned. There's just something about this one that gets bit.

Favorite? The Xcalibur XCS series. Second to the Luck E Strike RCs and the Strike King KVDs third.

Not to sound like a broken record but I agree with the majority here, it's Luck E Strike RCs and KVD 1.0 and 1.5s for me. My all time favorite is the RC "Freak jr" I'm not sure if it fits for this discussion though because its an adaptation of a square bill that is essentially a long square bill that allows it to dive deeper while still retaining the action and deflection of a classic square bill.

Xcalibur XCS. For the extra ~$1.00 you spend over a Strike King 1.5 you get better hardware. For those who change hooks on the ST consider spending the extra buck for the XCS which already has super sharp hooks. Not to mention the better detail. Raised gill plates, scales.

For anyone who liked the XCS, I suggest looking at the 6th Sense Crush. They are amazing too!

Lots of good ones out there. Safe to say it its a lucky craft squarebill regardless of model its very, very good. I like how their smaller cranks like the skeet mini have some weight to them. The LC Rick Clunn .05's were listed at 1/4oz and cast great on any baitcaster with a Medium rod....The luckystrike version is 1/8 oz but the same size

I like the strike kings alot for the price. But the lucky craft clunns have just outfished everything in my experience. I just adjust rod tip for depth and switch between the different sizes. I have a setup with 7' M avid and 10lb hybrid that handles most squarebills, and an older gen 6'6" MH fenwick HMG paired with 17lb suffix seige when I throw bigger baits and need to lean on a fish because of cover.

They're two entirely different baits, though.  Compare them in the water some time.  The XCS is a harder thumping bait, with a lot less roll and it has a considerable about more yaw.  The KVD is tighter and runs at a different angle and deflects completely different.

I use the Little John a lot, but I don't really consider it a squarebill.  It's more of a flatside bait, in my eyes.  The FatJohn, however, is a true square.  I like them a lot, too.

KVD 1.5 with trebles replaced with Gammy's.

Lucky Craft RC 1.5 for numbers, strike king is a close second and seems to run a little deeper as well.

Lucky Craft RC 3.5 - I like to throw this early summer during that first 1/2 hour early morning from the transition from darkness to 1st light. The extra vibration is a difference maker and seems to attract the bigger fish.

Someone mentioned that no single bait will cover all situations which is why we all carry more baits than we actually need.

If you want to see what a good crankbait looks like see the pic above. I have several LC RC 1.5 baits that look like this or worse in my go to box.

Some of the baits mentioned here are new so how are they a favorite bait? For me I have to catch a minimum of 50 fish on a bait before I will recommend it to others.

So I'll bring this back really fast.

What do you guys look for as far as length & weight of the KVD cranks?

Posted

KVD 1.5, 2.5, and LC LDS 2.5.   Also Kanan makes some really good cranks as well.
