VTBassman11 Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Hey guys, Just got my new Revo S in the mail, pretty darn excited. Anything i should do right out of the box? And what kind of regular maintenance should i be doing? This is my first baitcaster, so i want to treat her right. Tight lines Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 I personally would take it apart and clean the gears and drag washer, and regrease them with cal's or penn's grease. Then I would take the spool bearings and flush them out with acetone by soaking for 10 mins, and then regrease with a light oil. The factory usually packs the bearings with grease, and that can really impact the performance. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted January 29, 2014 Super User Posted January 29, 2014 IMPO, I would just use the reel and break it in first.... But if you have to tinker, then only the spool support bearings. If you have never been inside a reel then don't open it, again brake it in (1 season) then have a pro brake it down and re-lube the reel properly... Good Luck & Tight Lines! 1 Quote
Garret88 Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 All revos come with a manual on lubrication. Just rinse out the real under water, dry it off, and oil and grease (using abu garcia's oil and grease) where it tells you to in the manual. Thats straight out of the manual. I have a Revo SX, STX, and Winch. This process has worked well for all of them. Quote
jsc4324 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 X2 on what RM said on using it for a season. I have one that I did just that and the thing will sling bait a mile. No harm in opening it up though just take your time and take pics. I use a cardboard box trimmed down with a white towel inside so the little pieces stay put. Lay the pieces out on order and just reverse direction back together. It's really pretty simple to do if you are the slightest bit mechanically inclined. Quote
VTBassman11 Posted January 30, 2014 Author Posted January 30, 2014 I wouldnt say i am too mechanically inclined haha, but i like the idea of breaking it in for a bit. Thanks for the input guys. About 10 weeks till my season opens, cant wait to take her for a cast. Paired with a veritas 7' mh fast action... Thing is a lot stiffer than anything I have ever used. Quote
