Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 31, 2014 Super User Posted January 31, 2014 Obviously you haven't spent any time on Tackle Tour. LOL I get to see and use a lot of gear down here, someone always has a new rod or reel, anything from a Loomis to a Calico Jack or Van Staal to a Penn Fierce, personally I would rather handle it than read about it. I see equipment being used for the kind of fish and waters that I'm familiar with and opinions from people I trust, pretty good formula for me. Not saying Tackle Tour doesn't have it's place, but it isn't the same as using it, if I'm going to read a review, it's one by Alan Hawk Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 31, 2014 Super User Posted January 31, 2014 bmac, not only do the guys and gals on this blog have their opinions and advice so do the pros as they hawk their products. As you read articles in bass fishing publications or watch TV the pros are always trying to sell you something. Even Ike mentions his Havoc brand at the Classic. He did not say he caught the fish on the Havocs, only that they exist and he recommends them to everyone. So read the input and make up your own mind. As long as you stay with a known brand name you should not have any problems and the gear will work beautifully for you. Let us know when you buy something and the reason why. We are all interested in what you purchase after the interest we have shown in your query. Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 31, 2014 Super User Posted January 31, 2014 Sorry, should have addressed it to Hotiebenji. my mistake. Sort of got my brains messed up with the weather guys saying we are going to get up to six inches of more snow in the Richmond area this Monday. I hate snow. Quote
MarksHooked Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Like a lot of other 'newbies' I did exactly what Hootie mentioned: I read over hundreds of opinions, and try and make the best decision I can from that. I am thankful there are so many opinions about tackle and gear on this site, it has helped me choose my new set ups for this year, and every single bass fishing technique I tried last year was learned on these forums and various articles. Thanks BR! Quote

Some people here don't get to see the new gear, or have friends that have it. I know around me there's not a lot of retailers that carry certain brands. That makes it pretty hard to get to use it and get a feel of it before they buy it. There's nothing wrong with asking peoples opinions on gear. It's one of the biggest investments an angler makes and there's nothing worse than forking out a bunch of money for something, only to find that it's nothing like what you expected. There are parts of this form dedicated to what you are looking for. If you don't see what you're looking for, then start a new topic. Quote
