I think to much. I was thinking about the newbies who come on this site looking for ANSWERS. Not likely to get one. This site and others like it usually only provides "OPINIONS", not answers. Doesn't matter if you're on a fishing site, or a site for bowling seeking answers about bowling balls. All there is, are opinions. Just posted recently a topic concerning hook removal, "remove or leave it in". Got nothing but varied opinions. Nothing wrong with that. That's all there is. For there to be an answer, there has to be proof, and then no matter who answers, the answer will always be the same. If I ask, "what is 2+2, the answer will "ALWAYS" be 4, {hopefully}. No matter how many replies, they will always be the same, 4, 4, 4, 4, etc., etc. So, "NEWBIES",  when you ask on here, or any site, realize, what you are getting is only "ADVICE". Simply because that is all there is. Just go with popular opinion. If 20 guys say Lews is a great reel. and 5 hate the reel, probably a safe bet that it is a good reel...... I need a nap.

Well it's 7am and I've had two cups of coffee and getting ready for work. You've been up who knows how long and ready for a nap. You're one tough old bird, I'll give ya that. Just an observation there.

Thanks Trek, you have great day, and don't work to hard.

My opinion is that you're up too late.

If you wish to go the scientific route to find "answers" - good luck.  Scientists are always challenging the facts.  Constantly debating the methodologies, depth of research, and statistical relevance of the "answers", despite mounds of data that all say the same thing.  They're never satisfied with the "answers".  Instead, they're content with finding what they perceive are "flaws" in the "answers".

Have fun with that.

I guess the best one can do is seek advice from people who have been more successful than oneself. Almost as good as an answer if that's the best you can do right? And not to be cliche but it's called fishing, not catching. Haha

This is the best bass fishing forum on the internet. I have waded through them all. Working at BPS, I have refferred a lot of customers to this site.... Nah...not up too late. Bed too early. Went to bed at 7:30 last night, got up at 3:00 am.

Fun FACTS:

1.  Bass sometimes have a strong preference for bottom contact baits rather than moving baits

      and vice-versa!

2.  Every color will work some times, but certain colors seem to work better. Your "best" color is

probably the one you fish most often!

3.  Fishing stucture and/or cover improves your odds.

4.  Current or water flow can be the deciding factor on rivers.

5.  Generally, line choices mean more to fishermen than fish.

Lure color matters-except for when it doesn't.

For me, fishing is all about odds and percentages. Lure color, size, style and depth as well as time of day, location, weather and water conditions all change your odds. When I seek "answers" I'm simply looking to increase my chances of catching fish. With fishing nothing is guaranteed.

The answeres given here are from all different parts of the country. They are what has worked for that individual and are a collective of years of experience on the water. I seek advice/answers from those more experienced than me. If fishing had only one answer to each question there would be a lot more people on the water all with the same rods, reels, lures, bait, lines ect. I love the diversity of answers on here that's what keeps me interested. Diversity and adaptation are what makes this country great. The expression there is more than one way to skin a cat comes to mind. So my advice when seeking advice is to adapt and diversify. I'm also very philosophic when there is 14 inces of ice on my lakes. But I really do believe this.

Lets see, We have 101 pro anglers in the "elite" series and at any given tourney. 51 finish out of the money. These fisherman are the "best in the business" yet, they all fall short at one time or another. Yet they all give advice. Why don't they all finish in the top 10? This site is 25K strong and between all of us we probably have more fishing time and knowledge than the Bassmasters and the FlW combined. So ask away members, We may not always be right, but dammit, we are willing to offer what we know. Fishing is a lot different in Wisconsin than it is in Fla., But we have members from almost every state and offer their "take" to help each other out. Weed out what you want to, but everyone is trying to help. Opinion is like an a$$ hole, everyone has one, but every one working together helps everyone. Now I'm done ranting.

I read everyone's opinions then form my own answers. That's why it's fishing there is no answer. I'm here fishing for opinions. Better asking 1000 ppl on here then your one friend who thinks he knows everything. Also overtime you can tell who really knows what there talking about and who to listen to.

This is my opinion..............everyone on Bass Resource must already be a world class fisherman, because so many topics are devoted to gear and not about how to fish.  This is not the only fish forum I go, some of the others seem to have far less gear information way more talk about, how to locate fish, techniques, structure (If you think there is no structure to a beach, you never fished one), how to land a fish and nuances of various species.  Gear is meaningless if you can't find the fish or entice a strike.  What's really more important, Shimano or Pflueger, Loomis or St Croix..................or how to catch them, those are the explanations that will benefit more.

What if we as a species got the whole concept of math wrong, what if 2+2=5 but we're too stupid to realize it?

That's why we have the forums broken down into general topics. The Tackle section and Rods, Reels, Line etc.

are very popular and therefore very active. In the General forum there has been excellent threads on structure,

depth and temperature. Off the top of my head, RoLo, WRB and Catt come to mind. For more indepth discussion,

Glenn's videos are the cat's meow! For "various species" we have another dedicated forum. Regarding "how

to catch them', it seems to me that the membership shares a lot of informantion, not just "general', but specific to

their water.

I would also like to point out how we try to expand the site. Electronics have come along ways since the days of the

flasher. We introduced the "Electronics" forum to address this very important topic. Learning how to maximize the

features of this technology has been a challenge for many and some of our guys have been VERY helpful.

It really depends on the topic and what type of question you ask. If someones asks " what is a good crankbait rod?" you will get opinions in response but when you asks " What makes a medium moderate action or a parabolic bend better  for a crankbait than say a heavy action with a fast tip?" you will get answers in response. Wording is everything

I think some misunderstood my topic to be a complaint. NOT at all. Like the title says "Casual Observation".

When I post a question, be it about tackle or technique, I am looking for opinions. Didn't mean for it to come off

sounding critical.
