Shane Procell Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 I was on a charter trip with a couple of fellas from West Virginia today. It was not the best bite, only getting a fish here and a fish there all day. I turned into a hay field south of Kramer Island and hasd the guys working the heaviest grass on the lake. They needed a brake and started eating a sandwich. hey was my opportunity to get a line wet and hopefully stretch a line. I tossed out a Gambler Lures "Burner" worm (a big cut tail worm similiar to the smaller Zoom). This big girl hit it with knock out power. I set up good and she flew up and flared her gills, then she dove to the bottom of the hay field. She wrapped me up tight and I just maintained pressure till I could get the boat on top of her. Once on top of her I just hoisted her with everything I had and she came up along with 20 pounds of hay. High fives all around, a couple of snapshots and a good release. 6 Quote

Dead River Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 nice, if you just wanted to go after big fish down there how would you go about it? Quote
Shane Procell Posted February 6, 2014 Author Posted February 6, 2014 Big fish are taken in South Florida and Lake Okeechobee with an assortment of baits. My preferred method it running a Gambler Big EZ (swimbait) across the surface. Working big buzz frogs or hollow bodied frogs in the slop brings up huge bites as well. Some of the better sticks I know stick to flipping jigs and punching heavy cover with tungsten weighted creature baits. Quote
Dead River Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 what about a jumbo shiner? you guys ever throw rattletraps? Quote
