On something you have made that works.

I fish when its like it is now a lot of the city lakes and have had some surprising results on carp and catfish ( no i dont keep any ).

Carp fight like a bulldog and on 6lb ultralight they feel like a shark.lol..

I want to fish with something they dont smell and see everyday..so hit me up with your fav home brewed bait..

 Mine is as follows

 A cherry jello dry pack

 vanilla extract

 baitmate crawfish scent

garlic/ onion minced, not powder or salt.

 sugar

 salt

 cornmeal

and mountain dew instead of water....cake sparkles...yeah i know but it makes it glitter..

I combine all the dry stuff and then the vanilla, and the Dew until it becomes a paste.with enough moisture so it holds together.then the most important part a night in a freezer back in the fridge..it must be the jello but it comes out malleable and really sticks to the hooks.

I have caught a few cat on it,but the carp love it...

My favorite carp bait is a fiberglass arrow with a barbed tip flung out of a compound bow  :eyebrows:

When I'm catfishing I'm targeting the big ones so I never used prepared baits, either live or fresh cut bait for me. Not that you can't catch big ones on prepared baits, it's just far more likely with natural baits.

My uncle used to leave shad in a glass jar in the sun for about a week and then use them for channels and blues, nothing that stinks much worse than those things did.

i did that with chicken livers....the ol' boy who showed me the good spots on the Mississippi used livers and bailing wire to hold them to the hooks...he was a 72yr old black guy who did all our custom exh work.He was an artist with pipe..lol..

Never weighed the fish but he caught some huge cats with chicken livers.

I don't think I would fish the Mississippi with anything but fresh skipjack....

but to answer your question- I would buy cheap stuff for that- I am not stinking up my house for carp...or any other species for that matter lol

1" x 1" square's of salt pork marinated in garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Works for me :eyebrows:

if and when I use prepaired bait I use magic bait chicken liver or whopper shad.  the magic bait produces some good numbers. :leisures-and-sports-076:  I personally prefer a creek chub about 4 to 5 inches in length and I just cut the head off sometime I use them live but I catch too many bass with live ones. this method has produced my biggest cat to date 25 lbs I caught it in a private pond.
