Alpha Male Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I've been looking for another Med fast rod and I want a Legend tournament bass rod. I have seen and like the new one with the 2-peice reel seat. My question is, is it worth it or is the older version just as good? The one i found on ebay is a LTBC70MF and it says TEASER on the butt section. it also has a more traditional reel seat. LINK HERE any guidance would be helpful. Quote

I really enjoy this rod, and see myself with it for many years. The craftmanship is great. The materials used are top knotch. This rod is light, sensitive, and very strong. The latest model has everything I just mentioned but refined a little more. If you have found a previous model LTB, you will not be disappointed. Especially, if it comes with a lower $$ tag. If you do get the rod from ebay, just double check if you qualify for the lifetime warranty that those rods carry. I think you should, but I am not sure. Enjoy!! Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted January 26, 2014 Super User Posted January 26, 2014 The diffetence is the blank and the components used. The teaser is one heck of a versitile rod. I personally liked the older versions more because if the reel sear. I hate the new sk2 seat. I would not go much higher than what it is at right now in that listing. Super User ww2farmer Posted January 26, 2014 Super User Posted January 26, 2014 I owned several of the first generation LTB with the full cork grips, and several of the second gen. with the split grip/no fore grip. I do not care for the latest version for multiple reasons. #1 the reel seat, #2 they keep making them longer and longer, there are no 6'6" or 7' options anymore, or anything shorter than 6'8", and #3 none of them have hook hangers................really??? $250+ and no hook hanger. These rods are what prompted me to abandon St Croix for now, all of there newer rods are going in a direction I don't like, and they keep raising the price on some stuff with out any improvements. Granted the LTB has been "improved" if you want to call it that, but what about rods like the Mojo? They started at $90, and now a few years later with no upgrades are $110. Anyways St Croix rant over.....Of the two versions of LTB I owned I liked the full grip ones the best, they were better balanced. Quote

Not sure why there's all the hate on the new reel seat? I for one like them. The upgraded guides on the new ones are also a huge improvement. Remember OP, a lot of these guys here like the one above me, will defend how nice an abu veritas is....just my $.02 So I don't like the newest LTB, and I got rid of my old ones and replaced them with Veritas's and am happy with it, that's my business, but take your shots at me if it makes you feel better as a fan boy. BTW.....I guess you selectivly forgot that in many of my post's............even after I have switched to the Abu rods, that I still say the Croix's are the better built, have nicer components, and have the better warranty. And as far as the hook hangers go....your right, it's the current Legend Extreme's that have no hanger, and the LTB that went backwards and decided to use the old closed loop hanger, which IMHO is NOT an improvement over the 2nd gen. rods. NBD? It's a hook hanger right? Well at $250+ I would want a rod with a hook hanger I like, but like I said, the hook hanger was 3rd on the list of dislikes, I can't get past the reel seat so it's not really even an issue. If they would have just used the seat from the Rage rods, I might have liked them, but, they didn't. Sorry I have my own personal tastes. Quote

Remember OP, a lot of these guys here like the one above me, will defend how nice an abu veritas is....just my $.02 Well "all the hate on the new reel seat" seems a bit confrontational on your end but since you asked i guess....depending on the size of your hands and as well as how you palm a reel, the sk2 doesnt fit in some peoples hands correctly over the previous ECS. The trigger on the sk2 is shorter and if you have large hands like myself, it is beyond annoying to hold when you pal a reel. eCS has an extended trigger which (believe it or not) lots of people prefer. And to clarify, for years before i switched over to dobyns, i used exclusively st croix rods which include most of the 2012 ltb and many xtremes in the cork. Theres a couple st croixs that i will keep hopefully forever (the xtreme 69mlxf spinning, the sweeper that is listed in the ad, and the previous 68mxfc)but im not a fan of any of their current line ups in the legend series. The sciv-scv blanks they use are some of the best around. I felt the "improvements" they made made a lot(not all) of their rods tip heavy and uncomfortable use with their new sk2 seat they have been using. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted January 26, 2014 Super User Posted January 26, 2014 St Croix had some Legend Tournament rods with the 2 piece reel seat that had a narrow opening in the reels seat. Any reel with a large foot can't be mounted on the rod unless you shortened the foot. I bought one from the outlet store at the factory in Park Falls WI that was marked as a "second" and half price, and did not realize the problem until I got home. I called the store and they would have taken the rod back but I wasn't driving 300 miles back to return it. Quote

You can easily clean that cork with Mr. Clean magic eraser and for the price its going for thats not bad. You may even be able to make a warranty claim on the rod. Quote
Dr. Watson Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I have that exact Teaser rod, very versatile, fishes weightless lures like nobody's business and make a pretty good topwater/frog rod too.
