Pierre Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Hello everyone! I am new to this forum, but I did search the topic, and I couldnt find what I was looking for. I am new to the sport of fishing, my dad was never a big fisherman who could show me what I needed in my tackle box, so I'm seeking the help of my fellow fishermen and women. I am trying to build my tackle box up and I just do not know what should be in there. I live in Grand Rapids Michigan if that helps with any geographic details. Any suggestions would be great, I really appreciate the help. Happy Holidays --Jordan Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted December 13, 2010 Super User Posted December 13, 2010 Just starting out? Soft stick bait (Senko, trick stick, Yum Dinger, etc) and a Gamakatsu 4/0 EWG or 1/0 Finesse Wacky hook. You'll catch fish everywhere you go. Expand from there. Quote

Red Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 A 3/8 ounce chartruse and white spinnerbait, I recommend a Terminator T1. Berkley Power Worms always work well too. Cliff Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 13, 2010 Super User Posted December 13, 2010 The most basic mix might be something like this: 5" Senko, Fat Ika and Rage Tail Craw Rat-L-Trap Zara Spook Floating Rapala MegaStrike StikeBack Spinnerbait, white with two willow blades Here are a few "Best Of BR" threads with more suggestions: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1199915688/ http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1143177139 p.s. moby bass Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I throw some lead jigheads, in a variety of sizes and curly tail grubs, in a variety of sizes and colors as well. They are relatively inexpensive and since you are just starting out, they won't break the bank if you lose a few. I get Erie Dearie jigheads for about $2.00 a pack and Mister twister grubs for $3 or $4 a pack. There are lots of others. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 As far as lure is concerned i would say a spinner bait (white). If you just mean in general i would say a scent attractant. It will only enhance any lure you choose to put it on. I would suggest the mega strike. Quote
Vinny Chase Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Soft plastic worms I prefer Zoom Ol' Monsters Quote

Gangley Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 For a beginner, though opinions definitely vary, I feel that the very first item you fish with should be a basic worm. A regular 7 inch worm is the generic fishing lure EVERYWHERE, and is the easiest lure in the world to learn how to fish with. When texas rigged, it is near impossible to snag and most days fish will hit a worm if they hit anything at all. It's easy to cast, easy to retrieve, and hard to mess up....simply a great lure for beginners. Next on the list is a spinnerbait. Its harder to cast a long distance sometimes (particularly in very windy conditions), but it can be productive with very little effort on the part of the angler and you can cover a lot of water with it fairly quickly. By the time you get those two under your belt, you will most likely be itching to try every bait under the sun and will be ready to as well. Quote

Primus Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I would get a few Crankbaits, here are some affordable cranks that will put fish in the boat... Mann's Baby 1 Minus-runs app 0'-1' fish over the tops of weeds or rip through shallow grass 1/2 oz Red Eye Shad- great bait all year, one of the best cranks in cold water. Effective with a Yo Yo retreive, slow roll or rip off the grass Strike King KVD Square Bill Crank- nice crank for the 2-5' range Storm Wiggle Wart- good crank for 6'-8' range Rapala DT6 & DT10-Good cranks for the 6' range( DT6) or 10' range(DT10) Rapala #5 & #7 Shad Rap- terriffic shallow finnesse cranks If you are interested in fishing deep try a few Norman DD22's & Strike King Series 6XD. There are lot of cranks available through the likes of Bandit & Bomber that are reasonably priced. You may not be able to get all these cranks at once but pick up a few when you can and before you know it you'll have enough to target fish at various depths. Quote

Brent1 Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Black and white buzzbaits are very productive topwater baits. I'd buy one of each as soon as you get the worms, cranks, and spinners mastered. Quote
Fish Chris Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I second the polarized glasses, and needlenose pliars. But the VERY most important things you have to have in your tacklebag, is a scale, and a camera As far as lures or hooks go, that would all depend on what you fish for, and where you fish. Peace, Fish Quote
dulouz Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 In addition to all the great ideas already presented, I put a small first aid kit in mine. I also have bug spray/suntan lotion, a small towel to hook on my belt, and a peice of an old shovel handle for breaking of braid. Among other things... Quote
