If there is a problem with one of their rods do I take it back to the store I bought it from or mail it to St Croix themselves?

Im going to buy from one of their dealers but debating on saving a few bucks online compared to local place(Gander Mountain).

side note/rant.

I dont want to give GM my business cause I went there today with reel in hand to try out a few rods and they wouldn't remove the security bracket for me to feel it with out the extra weight of a cable 2/3rds up the rod. --frustrating.

They have 13 fish Omens on sale for like $80 but I have no clue how to judge what felt best between them and a mojo with cables on them. I don't have any other shops near me with those brands in stock. --sorry rant over.

I would deal directly with St Croix.  Keep the middle man out of it.

This! I've only dealt with St. Croix over the phone to discuss my options for rod replacement. They've been quite pleasant to talk with. Have not done the warranty replacement yet, but so far so good.

Ok, I guess Im confused from reading folks say you should buy from a SC dealer only not just some guy on ebay(which I didnt plan on doing)

Depends. If you bought it from a retailer and you can return it based off the return policy then return/exchange there.

If not also depending on the issue deal with Croix direct. Sometimes a problem (like a tip replacement) can be fixed locally and wouldn't need to waste the shipping.

If you bought a refurbished rod you're SOL

How about you get more specific with what you are asking about.

I havent purchased the rod yet. I was just trying to figure out if I had to buy it locally or not for any future warranty repairs.

if you buy it from a retrailer, i.e gander mountain, dicks, cabellas, Bps, TW, etc, you get the warranty the rod has. mojo has a 5 year warranty. obviously it's the same if you buy directly from st croix. if you are worried that because a rod is on sale/closeout, you don't have to be. you will get the same warranty. sending it vs having it repaired really depends on what the damage the has. if you break a rod within a stores return policy, more times than not the store will replace it for you. otherwise, sending it to st. croix is a better option. if it's a guide or something really small, having the repair done locally is MUCH cheaper.

Deal with St Croix directly. I have utilized their svc several times. Go to their website or call them, and they will help you from there. They have one of the best CS, I have dealt with.

Like the others said, "deal with St. Croix directly." That being said, they are very easy to work with and will usually go above and beyond to help any way they can, even if it is just a simple question about a rod or what to fish with. They really genuinely care about their customers and have top quality rods to prove it. I have never had to send in one of my rods to them, but if I did I'm confident that I wouldn't have a problem.

Haven't had to deal with warranties yet, but I've talked to them on the phone a few times and they have always been great and very helpful. I agree with the others saying to go straight to them. They will make sure you are taken care of.

I can not say enff good things about St Corix I won a St Corix used it a couple of time it broke on a hook set . I called they told me what to do real easy sent proof it was a St Corix they sent me a new rod . You won't be disappointed with there service.

To answer what I think your question is, the St Croix warranty is not an over the counter warranty like some others. For any true warranty issues or to use their Gold Star Service plan you have to deal with them directly and ship it to them. So you don't lose out on anything warranty wise if you order online from *** for instance. However for the regular manufacturer warranty to be honored you want to be sure the retailer is an authorized St a croix resaler. That being said as many others have suggested call them directly and order over the phone, great people to deal with.

Thanks for the advice. I was going to order thru fishusa.com cause they seem to have the best deal going on the Mojo's and Valley Sports doesn't list St Croix's as one of the rods they sell but I will try to contact SC thru their website.

I was just worried buying online and if something happens I have no B&M store to take it back to. I didn't realize you usually sent it back to St Croix themselves.

St. Croix is a 5 year warranty but you ship

It in and cost about 40 dollars for shipping.

Certain rods are 5 yrs. From the Avid line up they are forever assurance lifetime warranty. That highlighted phrase is a big deal. Shipping is $15 if you use the FedEx deal St.Croix has. In addition to the $15 you send a $20 check separately, with the rod. This is considered their silver plan. This is the only plan I have used.

If the complaint with GM was that you weren't able to put your reel on the rod, buying direct you're in the same boat.  Having questions about various rods can be answered by a SC rep on the phone before a decision is made.  I'd buy from GM, not only would I have a SC return policy but the store return policy would be quicker and smoother if something went awry.  SC most likely doesn't care if you buy direct or not, without the retailers they would sell far less rods, reorders from retailers generally mean more volume sales to them anyway.

I could put the reel on the rod but they wouldn't take the security cable off. I get it's prob just policy it's just frustrating not to have any local shops to buy quality products from in my area.

It makes it impossible to decide for myself which brand/length/action to go for at a specific budget.

Being new to using a BC reel I have no history to go off of.
