Super User webertime Posted January 24, 2014 Super User Posted January 24, 2014 Curado I is coming out "officially" at the end of February, just passing along what I've found: $179.99 7.4oz 6 Bearings Lefty reels get 7.2 and 6.3 ratios Righty reels get 7.2, 6.3 and 5.5 ratios Malaysia X-Ship and SVS Aluminum frame "Not as good as the Curado B!" postings will be abundant as usual... Super User roadwarrior Posted January 24, 2014 Super User Posted January 24, 2014 WOW! That's pretty specific intel. Why does the box read "HG"? Quote
Super User webertime Posted January 24, 2014 Author Super User Posted January 24, 2014 HG represents the 7.2:1 ratio I believe (micro gearing I "think"). Quote
DelcoSol Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Why would this be cheaper than the chronarch ci4? Seems like same features but made of aluminum. Quote
ColdSVT Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Nice!...was hoping it would stay green though lol did you see it at the show yesterday? Quote
Super User Darren. Posted January 24, 2014 Super User Posted January 24, 2014 Hmmm. Interesting info, webertime. Quote
Loop_Dad Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 So is it Curado H? Anyhow very nice. I was waiting for clearance of Curado G, but they better make it good one after seeing of this one. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted January 24, 2014 Super User Posted January 24, 2014 WOW! That's pretty specific intel. Why does the box read "HG"? I think HG stand for High Gear. Used in the new met & antares 2012. Quote
Super User webertime Posted January 24, 2014 Author Super User Posted January 24, 2014 I haven't seen it personally, poached that picture from somewhere else. Dwight is right about the HG/High Gear. Shimano uses A LOT of the same acronyms and names in their cycling and fishing stuff and sometimes I forget which is which (HG in cycling is the tooth profile of the rear cogs/gearing) my mistake. Cheaper probably due to (purely MY Speculation) graphite sideplates or somthing similar and the Chronarch having the sexy "Carbon/Composite" materials (IE charge more for the sexy named materials). Also appears to have the same form as Metanium and Ci+4 models so developing costs of the molds/machining is much lower for many of the components used. It is officially the Curado "I" Eye, Aye, i Quote
catchnm Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Malaysia......Citica 200D was made there. Same bearing count as the G reels? "Not as good as the Curado E series" postings as well. 1 Quote
Super User webertime Posted January 24, 2014 Author Super User Posted January 24, 2014 Malaysia is cool with me, more of an FYI for those that care. Quote

TrippyJai Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Shimano did a good job to redeem themselves. I hope they've put an aluminum star drag on this reel as I can't stand the plastic composite ones because they flex and I managed to break 2. Too bad they didn't keep the green, I know many people who like it and some who don't, but the green was unique to the Curado name. I'll probably end up getting one to try as I don't see a reason to swap out my E series yet. I still love the 200E frames and the green is awesome the way it changes colours in different lighting. I'll have to see what happens. Quote
BridgerM Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Probably of no consequence, but I noticed the box looks kinda worn on the left edge. Just thought that was odd for what it is. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted January 24, 2014 Super User Posted January 24, 2014 Someone should teach shimano the alphabet in order 2 Quote
Mike2841 Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 If they make one in a 50 size I'll give it a shot 1 Quote

Super User OkobojiEagle Posted January 24, 2014 Super User Posted January 24, 2014 5.x - 1 right handed retrieve available lots of options... left handed, not many??? oe Quote
bootytrain Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Malaysia is cool with me, more of an FYI for those that care. If they are using the metanium/chronarch ci4 tooling then the new curado should be made in Japan I think. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 24, 2014 Super User Posted January 24, 2014 Shimano builds their reels in their own facilities with proprietary components and most importantly, Shimano management. The "where" they are built is not anywhere close to the importance of the "how" they are built. 2 Quote
Dr. Watson Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Someone should teach shimano the alphabet in order From the sound of it though, it should be a better reel than the G. 1 Quote
B@ssCrzy Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Maybe they will sell the G's on sale for $50. I would buy one then. Ok....just kidding, but seriously this has piqued my interest. Quote

kschultz76 Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 No 5.x:1 in lefty sucks. Guess I have to look somewhere else for a cranking reel. But otherwise looks really interesting. If it performs anywhere close to the Chronarch CI4+ then it will be a great reel. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted January 24, 2014 Super User Posted January 24, 2014 They better come out with a 5.x.x for the lefties, dropping the ball already off the specs posted here Quote
