Curado I is coming out "officially" at the end of February, just passing along what I've found:

$179.99

Lefty reels get 7.2 and 6.3 ratios

Righty reels get 7.2, 6.3 and 5.5 ratios

Malaysia

Aluminum frame

"Not as good as the Curado B!" postings will be abundant as usual...

WOW!

That's pretty specific intel. Why does the box read "HG"?

HG represents the 7.2:1 ratio I believe (micro gearing I "think").

Hmmm. Interesting info, webertime.

So is it Curado H? Anyhow very nice. I was waiting for clearance of Curado G, but they better make it good one after seeing of this one.

I think HG stand for High Gear. Used in the new met & antares 2012.

I haven't seen it personally, poached that picture from somewhere else.

Dwight is right about the HG/High Gear.  Shimano uses A LOT of the same acronyms and names in their cycling and fishing stuff and sometimes I forget which is which (HG in cycling is the tooth profile of the rear cogs/gearing) my mistake.

Cheaper probably due to (purely MY Speculation) graphite sideplates or somthing similar and the Chronarch having the sexy "Carbon/Composite" materials (IE charge more for the sexy named materials).  Also appears to have the same form as Metanium and Ci+4 models so developing costs of the molds/machining is much lower for many of the components used.

It is officially the Curado "I" Eye, Aye, i

Malaysia......Citica 200D was made there. Same bearing count as the G reels?

"Not as good as the Curado E series"  postings as well.

Malaysia is cool with me, more of an FYI for those that care.

Bearing quality can and does make up for quantity

Shimano did a good job to redeem themselves. I hope they've put an aluminum star drag on this reel as I can't stand the plastic composite ones because they flex and I managed to break 2. Too bad they didn't keep the green, I know many people who like it and some who don't, but the green was unique to the Curado name.

I'll probably end up getting one to try as I don't see a reason to swap out my E series yet. I still love the 200E frames and the green is awesome the way it changes colours in different lighting.

I'll have to see what happens.

Probably of no consequence, but I noticed the box looks kinda worn on the left edge. Just thought that was odd for what it is.

Yeah, mine are mounted on a BCR893 and BCR854 which are PERFECT matches!

If they are using the metanium/chronarch ci4 tooling then the new curado should be made in Japan I think.

Shimano builds their reels in their own facilities with proprietary components

and most importantly, Shimano management. The "where" they are built is

not anywhere close to the importance of the "how" they are built.

Someone should teach shimano the alphabet in order

From the sound of it though, it should be a better reel than the G.

Maybe they will sell the G's on sale for $50.  I would buy one then.  Ok....just kidding, but seriously this has piqued my interest.

'just kidding'? I'm honestly waiting for G's on sale $50 each in a month. I'll take three. :Victory:

No 5.x:1 in lefty sucks. Guess I have to look somewhere else for a cranking reel.

But otherwise looks really interesting. If it performs anywhere close to the Chronarch CI4+ then it will be a great reel.
